Default OT: Music recommendations for anxiety

    Hi all,

I’d like to get my teenage son with anxiety listening to some good quality Christian music to help keep his thoughts positive and lift his spirits. We have a lot of classical music, which is great, but I’d like to find a few albums for him of Psalms or other Scripture set to music, or some high-quality CCM. He likes country music a lot, but those lyrics can be a little depressing sometimes.

    Any recommendations?

    Great idea!

Have you heard the Choir of King's College? We like the Psalms of David CD, if only for calming background. The words can be hard to understand, but if he follows along with a copy of the Psalms, he receives double the benefit! They also have a hymn collection, Be Still My Soul. I think you can listen on YouTube to see if you might want this.

Our favorite is MP's Lingua Angelica CD with calming, beautiful sacred music. Bonus benefit: developing an ear for ecclesiastical Latin. As you may remember from SC, we enjoy this at home or on the road. My daughter listens in her room. If your son reads music he might appreciate the accompanying Lingua Angelica Songbook.

Thanks—I am tossing Lingua Angelica in the van right now for our appointments today. We have not used it with the Form series yet but do own it!

Almost anything by the Kansas City Chorale is soothing. Our favorite is Rachmaninov’s “All Night Vigil”. It’s completly in Russian but ((((wow)))). Highly recommend that one.

The Corner Room comes to mind, I think the album is called Psalm Songs. It is a number of psalms, set to a bluegrassy type music. I really love it.

Brother Down is another psalm type one I think I remember.
