What are the odds that SC 5/6 will publish before free shipping ends in November? <wink wink>

SC 5-6 is in the editing stage now. That will take a couple of weeks at least, so we are close but may not make it by the end of November. But we can put it up for pre-order if it looks like we aren't going to have it totally ready. So if we haven't released it by Nov. 26, I'm going to have our online content manager make sure you can purchase that last week of November to ensure you get free shipping.

    How's that?

Is SC 5/6 staying with 4 days of core lessons and the fifth being a delve deeply day? I thought I remember reading it was scheduled for 5 full days, but now I can't find where I read that. Just clarifying.

We created the plans for 5 days. We included both review and "delve deeply," along with brief movement/multisensory lessons within the 5 days.

However, if your family relies on 4 days, you can teach 4 days especially if you choose the standard Two-Year plans.

Often on Tuesdays and Thursdays we review spelling words and patterns, math facts, and Latin vocabulary. You could move these to the lesson days by reviewing first, then teaching.

I have the draft of the Two-Year Lesson plans in front of me. You can combine Thursdays & Fridays as I just described, or you could combine Tuesdays & Wednesdays. You would simply begin your lessons with any needed review activities that might be suggested. This will give you a 5th day for any of these options: being free, reviewing, or delving deeply into anything you might have missed or want to explore further.

I think 5 days is better for us.

4 days is nice because we rarely get behind. We have that 5th day to check any boxes that haven't been checked yet. Ha!

I was planning on doing Grade 1 Enrichment from the Classic Core curriculum with all three kids next year. Do you think it would be too much to do the Music Appreciation scheduled in this guide too? Should I just stick with Grade 1 enrichment or do both?

Second, does each student need their own R&S Science Text? I'm thinking they are cheap enough that if it would make life easier, I will just order each student their own copy.

If you need Patterns of Nature, I think I still have two workbooks and the teachers guide. I will verify and can mail them to you. I think there might be one or two filled in lessons in one of the workbooks.

    5/6 uses R&S grade 3 science...it's a hardcover textbook.

If you're teaching all three from MP 1 Enrichment, you will not want to attempt Music Appreciation Book One at the same time. You would be juggling too many selections, composers, composer biographies, time periods, etc. It will be confusing for them. It is perfectly fine to wait until SC 7 & 8 for Music Appreciation Book One, because we will review the selections, composers, and time periods before proceeding to the music theory anyway.

As for Science, yes, good call there. Not only will this allow everyone to follow along in the reading with his own copy, but each student can mark in his own book as needed.

We are working on final edits this week, so I hope to have a pre-order announcement before free shipping ends!

I just received the exciting news that because we are so close to the end of the month, MP will offer free shipping on SC 5 & 6 through the end of the year.

More on this to come, but we wanted our forum friends to know first.

    Totally OT:
You know what STINKS? I want this whole course for my kids. I could combine it with MP3 and have a smashing good time. (Grass is greener, I guess.) They all went back to school today (I have a gloriously quiet house.) But my gears are turning over grammar, literature and Latin. The school is great for STEM and electives, but my English degree is not satisfied with the emphasis on the other things. I need some deep diving there. Is there a such thing as a STEM/elective school that meets two days a week? If all I had to reach was language and history, I’d be right in my stride.

(Leave it alone, Anita. Things are going well. Leave it alone!)

So, I should order my other pieces now and then SC 5/6 when it posts?

    Michelle,

That would be great if you order everything that is not a part of SC 5-6 now while free shipping is an option. Then, your SC 5-6 will be free shipping also. I'm sorry this requires 2 orders, but it is the cleanest way to do it and make sure you get free shipping on everything.

No biggie at all Tanya! I've been checking and rechecking my shopping list.

Looks like Michael's updated curriculum list now includes English Grammar flashcards_ had no idea such a beautiful thing existed. Adding those to the "buy" list.

Looking at the “revised” list, are you going to be selling 2 different manuals? (1 year or 2 year?). I was thinking you would get the two year plans and do 2 weeks in 1 if you wanted a 1 year pace. Is the one year plan different than doing that?

Will the “tests” be a totally different book?

Yes, there will be two different manuals. The Two-Year Manual will include extra practice, review games, and "delve deeply" items that will not be possible to include at the accelerated pace. This could make it difficult for a user to determine which to include or omit when accelerating. The One-Year Manual streamlines rapidly and removes those extra items to accelerate in a manner closer to the MP pacing.

As you might imagine, the Two-Year Manual became monstrous with Reviews & Tests included along with two years of lessons, so we pulled those Reviews & Tests for separate formatting.
