Thanks, all. We will try to sub the currently listed flash cards with a stronger alternative before SC 4's release!

They are already hole punched, come with rings and have each fact on its own heavy duty card. One side has the answers one side doesn’t.

They have sets available for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. My kids love them too!

Cheryl, can you disclose the books in the SC4 extended literature set?

My son has started stalling out in MP2 lit. We have completed everything up to Little House, but I can tell we are at his upper limit for now. I decided to skip Little House and jump to Beatrix Potter. Just started that series today.

I looked back through the SC4 booklist and it mentioned the optional lit from SC2. I remember reading those aloud back then, but forget how they're scheduled. I think using those as Readers next would be a good option for extended practice, but looking to next year I'm not sure it would be enough for the year. Maybe if I add Little House at the end of next year too?

But, it made me wonder what's included in the SC4 extended lit option and whether that would be an appropriate replacement for the lit books he's already read this year.

So, trying to figure out a good option for reading practice at his current level without trying to increase difficulty for now, but also looking at options for next year.

You mean what are the Sc2 Extended Lit Readers?

    Nate The Great
    Amelia Bedelia
    Frog and Toad Are Friends
    The Boxcar Children

I can’t remember which order they are scheduled but I think it is in the order I just listed (?). Anyway, if you want to use them for readers you can read them in any order. Though I would not recommend trying to use The Boxcar Children as a reader. It’s a little more daunting (fewer pictures, longer chapters).

Cheryl has hinted to me that I own some SC4 extended readers (I am supplementing my son’s reading too) and his list looks like this:

    Frog and Toad Together (Lobel)
    Owl at Home (Lobel)
    Hill of Fire (Lewis)
    Pompeii: Buried Alive! (Kunhardt)
    Titanic: Lost and Found (Donnelly)
    The Big Balloon Race (Coerr)
    Mouse Tales (Lobel)
    Daniel's Duck (Bulla)
    The Fire Cat (Averill)
    Greg's Microscope (Selsam/Lobel)
Frog and Toad All Year (Lobel)
The Sword in the Tree (Bulla)
    Clara and the Bookwagon (Levinson)
The Long Way to a New Land (Sandin)
The Long Way Westward (Sandin — Part II, trains feature prominently)
    Riding the Pony Express (Bulla)

No idea how many of these are actually on the SC4 list (since there are quite a few) but My Guy is enjoying himself. Look at your library’s catalog system or go to Amazon. Every one of these books (except maybe one or two of the Bulla books) are cheap and easy to find.

Colomama! Good to hear from you. How are you feeling? All healed up?

This is our list, but any of Anita's will help.

In SC 4 I focused more on "boy" stories. See what you think:

    SC 2 or 3:
    Frog and Toad Are Friends
    Amelia Bedelia
    Nate the Great
    Boxcar Children

    SC 4:
The Bravest Dog Ever: The True Story of Balto
The Long Way to a New Land
    Greg’s Microscope
    Dr. Seuss: The Great Doodler
    The Bears on Hemlock Mountain
    Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective

I think I already have most of the books on both of your lists. Yay!

We spent the last 2 days in his ASD evaluation. Should have an answer by Valentine's day. They recommended genetic testing, any thoughts on that from you guys?

My next surgery is scheduled for Monday...at 230. Prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery are needed. Also, that I don't starve or get hangry too bad as I go all day without eating.

That IS a long time to be fasting! Prayer for the surgery, your healing, and for the upcoming reports. A big month ahead. Keep us posted.

    Some good questions to ask:
--What are some of the things you would be looking for?
--How might the results impact his treatment?
