Oh Anita! I am so sorry. And so impressed with your forbearance and attitude - and for sharing with us so that you know you have a community around the world praying for you and your family. Keep us updated. One day, you will look back and say, "Ah! Now I understand!" But that doesn't mean it's easy now, does it?

                          Re: OT: Prayer Request

Thanks, everyone ❤️ I so, so appreciate it. You just don’t think that a good education, a life of service, excellence in your field and always trying to do the right thing will yield these results — especially in your 40’s. But my husband has talked to more than one executive (higher than he is in the “food chain”) who lost their position pretty abruptly. One colleague was unemployed for four years! He lost his house, his retirement, everything. He flipped burgers for a couple of years, just to try to make it.

We also have a close childhood friend of my husband’s whose wife is terminally ill with a degenerative brain disorder (similar to Alzheimer’s). “P” is losing his wife, day by day; he’s lost his business, his income, and his wife’s family has been stealing from his wife’s medical account. (We got the opportunity to help him pretty significantly before we lost our own situation.) Another childhood friend of my husband’s was just abandoned by his wife of 12 years. They have two young daughters. So it could be much, much worse.

As an aside, after being online (or on hold) for the last week, I have incredible empathy for those applying for Medicaid and Food Assistance, as well as those who serve them. The System is incredibly complicated, slow and unwieldy. It’s also alarming to answer questions about whether or not anyone in my household has been incarcerated, is out in parole, is a felon or living in their car. Say a prayer for all those who are less fortunate today. We so rarely get to interact with people who truly need mercy. It’s easy to forget that they are all around us. I’m glad, though, that we have assistance when we truly need it. I can’t imagine living in any other country where we’d just be left to starve or go without basic medical care because the economy took a dive. We are truly blessed to be Americans.

Anita, I am so sorry to hear this distressing news. Praying for you all as your family discerns next steps.

I wanted to share with you that if/when you qualify for SNAP (food stamps) and if you are looking for other ways to save on bills, do look into the free telephone and free home internet services offered by the big telecommunications companies to families on SNAP. This has been a tremendous help for me (I am permanently disabled and on disability assistance). We wouldn't be able to afford either a telephone or internet, otherwise.
