    Default SC recitation

    For level C, is the recitation not cumulative? This is my first time using the SC curriculum. I know the standard recitation is cumulative from K through 2nd.

    The SC C recitation is cumulative. You will notice a collection of recitations at the front of your Curriculum Manual. Week 8 indicates "all of the above plus...," as do Week 9 and 10. Then Week 11 is review of all from Weeks 1-11. All are cumulatve throughout. In Weeks 11, 22, and 29 of SC C we review formally all to date.

    SC C recitations are also cumulative with review of SC A and SC B recitations. You may see some differences. For example, when the student advances to "Count to 15," he no longer recites "Count to 10."

    With the SC recitations, we allow approximations for students with speech articulation or other expressive language difficulties, but we do intend for recitations to be as cumulative as the student's abilities allow.

    So on weeks 1-5, the kiddos should only do the recitation listed, correct? Then, beginning on week 6 it becomes cumulative for the ones not mastered with the exception of weeks 11, 22 and 29. Sorry I'm so dense on this!

    Recite the included items daily as written. To make everything cumulative, you can recite everything daily from previous weeks.

    Some children will not need this much repetition, so you might recite previous weeks' items once weekly (e.g., every Monday) or 2-3 times weekly (e.g., every MWF). As you progress, you will find a rhythm that works well for your student. Some items (count to 10) are much easier than other items (Psalm 23:1-3a).

    Do what works well there. If you have time and if you student does well with the full recitation, you can recite everything from Weeks 1, 2, 3 and so on every day. This is ideal.

    Then on those "Review and Test" weeks, such as Week 6, you can determine which items need to carry over into daily recitation Weeks 7 and following.

    No need to apologize. We could have made this more clear.


    We allow some flexibility with SC recitations, because so many of our children have difficulties with speech or stamina. Do push as much as your student can do. As you know, often this is more than we think!

    Thank you! This makes sense. I know that some of this is easier and some is harder but I was trying to make sure I understood the goal and what the recommendation was. We will attempt to be more cumulative in the first few weeks and see how it goes. Like you said, counting to ten is much easier than some of the other pieces. For some reason, number of letters in the alphabet always trips mine up.
