I don't see this on the list, but Beverly Cleary's "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" was always a favorite of my boys.

All three Mouse and the Motorcyle books
      The Push-Cart War (so funny)
not sure if you'd go for this but my 10 yr old just finished The Westing Game (and loved it) and also Star Wars Shakespeare (and loved that, too)
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankwhiler

Thanks for this thread. I'll be looking into suggestions above.

I just read the series, The Incorrigibles of Ashton Place. They are a great series for kids. There is an episode on Read Aloud Revival podcast that interviews the author, which is also fabulous.

Wow, you all have some wonderful suggestions! I'm going to look up the ones I don't recognize. My kids have loved Hank the Cow Dog and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.
My husband calls them Hubert Prentiss when their rooms get a bit out of hand.

My dd12 has this series - I never thought to have my ds read them!

We have a set of books that's very entertaining but not in chapter book form. The Sir Cumference series have always made us laugh and my math-y DD and DS really like reading about Sir C's misadventures with things like "All the King's Tens" or the "Sword in the Cone".

My 7 year old checked out a few Bird & Squirrel comics from the library yesterday and has been gobbling them up, smiling and giggling as he does.

And I meant to jump back on here a while back and add the Half Magic series and one from our AO days, The Enormous Egg.

I have Reluctant Dragon in Audible, I think, but have not listened to it.

We checked out Mercy Watson from the library, and so far, it's kept my boys in stitches.
