Issue with Vimeo - Mr. Wright's plenary

I'm not sure if this is the place to post re: Vimeo - please move/delete this post if need be!

I purchased the full bundle of talks from last year's Sodalitas gathering. During David Wright's plenary on "Movere", the video stops completely and goes silent for nearly a minute (from 20:00 to 20:55). I rewound and tried to view it a few times, wondering if the issue was my computer - it definitely is not. Is this something that can be fixed? If not, no biggie.

I experienced the same thing Mary.

It was an EXCELLENT talk, btw! Can't wait to listen to the others.

I'm SO glad you liked it! The "Ode to B" poem is a fave, as well as the list of occupations for homeschoolers. *cracks up laughing* My son actually wants to be a lumberjack. Or a carpenter. Or a sword maker. He can't decide. Mr. Wright was the first person to give me permission to think about something other than college for my children.

Absolutely Mary...the *Ode*...being dropped off at the SAT's as if it's another day (haha...I still have to laugh), The Hobbit...etc. I laughed, I cried. Highly recommend!! I am going to let my daughter watch it.

Haha! Those were my favorites too. My 3 older boys have mentioned most of those jobs stating that they want to be this and that. The most recent choice is a blacksmith. That one really made me laugh....how did Mr. Wright know?

I wondered that same thing aloud to my husband. We decided that it's just common sense - no boy says, "I want to sit in a cubicle and claw my way to middle management" when asked what he wants to be when he grows up. Sadly, children are pushed into that because doing anything other than going to college is just weird in our society. We don't celebrate the kidswho takes an apprenticeship with the local electrician or who decides to become a truck driver or a plumber.

Well, my daughter talks a lot about finding a vocation that will allow her to stay at home and homeschool her children. First and foremost, she wants to get married and have children (she doesn't want to be a nun, despite the glamorous picture I've painted). She loves dogs and horses and does really well working with both. And she likes to sew and knit and crochet...I've been talking with her, as we sit together at our machines or over our needles, about turning one of these hobbies into a vocation. Dog trainers don't need college degrees and neither do horse trainers or trail guides. There is a really lovely store nearby that offers seamstress and dressmaker certifications - I've taken a few classes there and have really learned a lot! These are things that allow flexibility, can provide a good income and don't require college degrees.

For girls, depending on how adventurous they are, trail guides, expedition leaders, EMTs (regular or wilderness), range safety officers, marksmanship/firearm instructors (women are a HUGE market right now!), wedding gown/prom dress alterations specialists, pattern makers (needlework or sewing), small business owners (bakery, quilt shop, bookstore), cake decorators (esp. if you specialize in weddings!), tutors, dog trainers...none of these careers require a college degree, but could be fulfilling options.

                  Mary...

You always put a smile on my face

GREAT ideas! Not sure where daughter is headed but she has not excluded the idea of becoming a nun...Benedictine she says, haha. She does not talk about marriage or having a family much. But who knows what God has planned for her!

Her father did cakes (even those cool 3D ones) for a long time before he started managing food service. But she hasn't been drawn to that though she is quite creative. Her creativity comes out in her writing and art.

Otherwise, she already has herself pegged as a literature/history/Latin teacher for MP...Mrs. Cutrer (MPOA LATIN) is her idol! These instructors are such a wonderful on our children. That has been our experience so far.

                    Mary,

Apparently Vimeo had an issue when I uploaded the file. (We may have to find another system since we had the same issue with our conference videos from 2012 and 2013.) I am uploading again and I expect it to be ready in about 30 minutes. Please give it a try sometime after lunch and let me know if it works!

You're welcome. For the record I have quite the reaction to hornets, so I carry my own epi-pen too! Maybe I should bring a few the next time we do a convention together.
