It sounds like your math is working well, so I would stick with it. R&S is not a magic bullet. It can be great for families who have had trouble with other programs, but you certainly won't miss out on anything by using Saxon and MUS instead. I have used both R&S and Saxon over the years.

Classical Studies Catch-up?
I had a little homeschool FOMO this year, and I ended up having my sixth-grader do MODG history (Ancient Egypt) rather than Famous Men of the Middle Ages. I would like to get back on track with MP Classical Studies next year, but I could use some advice. Should we do FMMA over the summer, perhaps just...

We tried to use it last year following the FFL plans, but I found it hard to implement considering we knew so little. I decided to put the CD in our van a few months ago, and we all enjoy listening to it and singing along. I imagine we'll pull out the books to understand it all better in the future,...

I would caution against leaving components behind that have worked for you in the past in order to have the benefit of following the MP guide exactly. When we switched to MP two years ago I changed to the MP math and phonics/spelling even though we were perfectly happy with our programs. While it was...

I love Latin, but you most definitely do not have to start Latin in second grade to do MP. You have your hands full. You could wait and start Prima in 3rd or even wait and start right in with LC in 4th. Also, if your 4-year-old is in his/her 3/4 school year, you do not need to be doing any formal schooling...

Thank you, cherylswope . I spoke with our pediatrician, and she recommended I get my daughter evaluated (although she thinks a few weeks at a summer camp post-covid might be all she needs).
I haven't noticed any trouble with her schoolwork except that she needs constant reminding to stay...

Thank you so much for your detailed and helpful response. I don't think she notices her differences, so I think that will make addressing them all the trickier. I will definitely use your suggestions. I'm not sure where to start. Who do I call? What do I ask for?
We have done Myself and...

Does my 1O-year-old need to be evaluated?
Hello,
My 10-year-old daughter has been doing the regular MP curriculum for two years now, and it has been going great. However, socially she is a little...quirky. I am starting to wonder if she would benefit from some kind of evaluation. Here are some of my concerns:- She didn't start babbling

We are doing FFL this year too. The booklet is kind of a guide to what's on the flashcards and which cards should be used when. For each lesson, it will tell you which cards to use and of these, which are additions or changes from the previous lesson. I wrote the weekly changes in my FFL TM so I wouldn't...

Thank you all for taking the time to offer some advice. I think we'll continue to work carefully through the FSR/K phonics program and look forward to the rest of the K program starting this summer. We'll certainly do lots of team reading as she works toward mastery/fluency. We have done M&O 1 as...

Suggestions for K with an early reader
I am looking ahead to our next school year (we'll begin in June), and I would like some advice from all of you wise MP ladies. My just-turned-5yo daughter is finishing up FSR C alongside the Jr. K program. She worked through the Jr. K alphabet books before starting FSR and the Core Skills Phonics books....

I don't have a kindergarten curriculum manual, but I do have the kindergarten phonics lesson plans. The appropriate phonics flashcards are indicated within each day's lesson plan.

Move up a level in literature?
I am wondering if my 5th grader should move up to the accelerated pace literature guides. She completed the 4NU program last year and we're just finishing up LWW now (we started the school year early). She has always read at a level well above her grade level, but we have stuck with the appropriate...

Oral vs. Written
Hello,
My daughter is beginning 5th grade, and after completing MP 4 I'm wondering if I'm requiring enough written answers. We go through CS II, literature, and Famous Men orally, and then I assign 2-3 per subject for her to go back and write in answers. She is filling in all answers for...
