I'm taking Third Form this summer! I started taking the classes a couple of years ago because I love languages and wanted to keep up with my kids, and now it's turned into a job teaching First and Second Form at a cottage school! Magistra Strickland is a wonderful instructor and it's been fun to challenge...

We did Fable this year and I allowed my son to use a thesaurus. It was good practice for him to look up the words and think about what the word actually meant in context (as the synonyms in the thesaurus are divided up based on the meaning of the word).

My 4th grader is finishing up FMOR next week. It was relatively hands-off for me, but that is partly because of his own motivation and how he likes to learn. Here's how I schedule a week of it for him:
Monday - flashcard quiz with me on previous lessons, read through Facts to Know together,...

Thanks for the response Tanya! The parsing update to FFL was very helpful and I definitely want the students having access to that practice again so I will have everyone hold off on ordering until summer. We won't start until September so beginning of summer is plenty of time for us....

Ohhhh I didn't know SFL was being updated! Any idea when this summer it will be out? I've already ordered the SFL (received it on Friday - thanks for the amazing quick shipping!) and I'll be teaching a SFL class next year starting in September and have already told the students to order their books...

If you go to the Courses pull-down menu, go to All Courses, then limit the subject list to Latin, and it will be listed there with all the other Latin classes. I can't find it anywhere else, and I'm guessing I stumbled on this while trying to figure out classes for my son....

We have done a Jesse Tree in the past, but the past couple of years we have loved using Cindy Rollins' Hallelujah which goes through Handel's Messiah. She's updated it this year: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1944435077...8G80mamqZSDWnV...

This is just beautiful Sarah. Thank you for taking the time to share your sweet family's story as an example of God's grace and provision! It is such an encouragement to hear stories of families who have been traveling this road longer than me and to see God's faithfulness on that road.Every spring...

On pages 80 and 82 of the TM there are two maps that have some US landforms and rivers labeled (but not the Great Lakes). I've been using that to help point out where to place these things on the student maps.

I am far from a veteran homeschool mom, but I can share with you what I've done with my 3rd grader. Starting last year in 2nd grade, I would give him "independent work" which consisted of doing his math problems, reading his literature (we would then read it together a second time during class),...

Great idea! I am considering doing this for my other son's TS spelling words, not sure why I didn't think of it for French!...

FS French I Flashcards?
I'm going to slowly go through First Start French I with my 3rd grader this year - his new baby cousin is French Canadian and he wants to learn to speak French to her! Does anyone have any flashcard recommendations for First Start French I? I'd rather not reinvent the wheel and make my own if there...

Another tip: Some of the enrichment read-alouds are holiday-specific. I will also switch around enrichment weeks during the holidays in order to read Christmas books at Christmas-time, instead of January, for example.
And as a newbie, feel free to ask questions on this forum! These mothers...
