My son and I only read the Inferno. It wasn’t my original plan, but I needed to stop and have him read something lighter that wouldn’t require any prep for me because I was in the midst of a difficult pregnancy. What are your reasons for only studying the Inferno? It's not ideal, because you're...

I've held back several of my children who are less emotionally mature and have not regretted it, even though all are bright and could have pushed through on the academics. So I definitely wouldn't rush a child with ADHD to be the youngest in her grade....

howiecram I am so glad things worked out with FFL! I will just add that my oldest son, who took two years with First Form, was able to adjust to the one-year pace (with a little catch up in the summer) after that. He moved to MPOA for Latin in Fourth Form. I did insist on Latin in high school amidst...

Someone just brought that book to us! It is so good! After my younger children had read it several times, I heard my 6 year old daughter singing a song to our baby without DS about how wonderful it will be for him to have a big brother with Down syndrome (because it is our first twin who has it). ...

Thank you, Cheryl! I have seen some books from Woodbine House. I will check these out.
Amazingly, I got a call from the state program this morning, after they had told me it would be six weeks until they could get to us. So we have an in-home evaluation scheduled for next week!

New diagnosis in our family
Hello! We have had our twins, fraternal boys born on August 26. They came a month early and spent a week in the NICU but are home now, settling in well and being constantly loved on by all their siblings.
One of our little guys was diagnosed at birth with Down syndrome. He has some heart...

Thank you, Cheryl. I should have mentioned that with the dictation or writing one sentence, we have been reviewing all the spelling rules he learned in Barton level 3 and the part of level 4 that we completed. I was planning on starting him in TS1 with SC4 when we start school.
I am hesitant...

Bare-bones SN teaching in postpartum time
Hello! We are expecting twins in the next 6-8 weeks. I want to be realistic about my plan for my 9-year-old son with dyslexia & ADHD considering we will be taking a significant amount of time off right at the beginning of the school year (or not even starting the school year if the babies are...

We definitely do this with our son with autism. It has been so helpful to him! For example, we have watched film versions of every novel by Jane Austen, and he is currently almost finished reading her entire oeuvre. Another trick we do for leisure reading, as opposed to scheduled literature assignments...

I also love teaching As You Like It, for the reasons Sarah mentioned as well as Rosalind being one of Shakespeare's most delightful and well-developed female characters. I think you can enjoy the play with a younger student by skimming over or not explaining the puns and innuendos. They would be obvious...
