Abigail Johnson Thank you for all that information. That is very helpful. I feel like I understand how to teach this better.
I have two kids using this program. My daughter, who is younger, has spelling issues, but she doesn’t mind putting pencil to paper. My son is in 8th grade doing...

Abigail,
Thank you for asking. This is for my daughter, who is 11 years old, doing the MP4 (new users). Thanks for any clarifications.
The other thing I was going to mention is that this is not her “neatest work”. I usually require more neatness in the Final Draft....

Fable-Paraphrase
I’ve been reading through some posts and wanting to make sure I understand. I am posting a copy of my daughters paraphrase for Lesson 2 in Fable. I read through it (yes, she is a struggling speller), but what stood out to me was her sentences, at times, sound so much like the original. I am wondering...

enbateau Thanks! That is really helpful. I am wishing I had done Rod & Staff from the beginning, but I already owned MUS which has also served us well. I do think the writing will help her. In TT I noticed that not having to write a ton meant she tried to do a bunch of them in her head. I also...

Math Placement Help
I am new to Rod and Staff. I have a daughter who will be doing MP4 this coming year and I wanted to see if she could handle Math4. We were using Teaching Textbooks previously and I had read that TT is about a tear behind other math programs. Knowing this, I gave her the R&S placement test from...

Math Placement Test
Rod & Staff Math Placement:
My daughter (11) has been using Teaching Textbooks for a couple of years now. I just printed the R&S Placement test from Milestone books. My daughter did OK with the Math3. However, I noticed, she made the following errors:
She accidentally...

Placement Help
I am coming from a very eclectic background of materials. Many of you have seen me on here before and I have used a variety of MP materials. I am looking for a little more help on placement for a couple of kids:
Background:
Year 1 - I first started homeschooling because I had 2 struggling...

Structure in the day
I am looking for tips on structuring the day. For example, my children are 16 (Autism/Cognitive Delay/Sensory Issues and Behavioral Issues), 13 (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia), 11 (Pretty Neurotypical, but resists working with me), 8 (Neurotypical, but does NOT enjoy school and only wants to be outside.) and...

I am so inspired by this post. Thank you for sharing this. I am in my fifth year of homeschooling and my situation is not going quite as well, but I am also trying to find my flow. I have one question. I keep seeing things like 3M or 3A and I don’t understand what you mean. I was wondering if...

Thanks ladies.
I had totally forgotten to mention we are doing MP3. Right now we are reading Charlottes Web. She can read the material pretty well as in she missed a few words like manure, one word with a -tion ending). I set a timer for 20min and we got through Reading Notes, Vocab...

Needing advice
Can someone help me understand how to best use the LitGuides? So, my thoughts are to sit down with a child and:
1-Read the Reading Notes to her. Make sure there isn’t a question.
2-Read through the vocab and the comp qyestions
3-assign the reading or have her read to me?...

Another trick I use is to teach:
Bat-Ball-B (First I pick up the BAT, then I hit the BALL). This helps when you teach the letter formation to match the stroke in the little saying.
Doorknob-Door-D (First I grab the DOORKNOB, the I open the DOOR.). So you would want to form...

All:
I wanted to go a little deeper into my 12-yr old son’s abilities.
Phonics/Spelling - we have been doing the Susan Barton program for the past 4 years. He is almost done with book 6 and he needs to finish book 8 to get the complete phonics teaching. However, he can...

Dyslexic Learner
I am wondering if these classes would work for a dyslexic learner. He is still working at typing, but he cannot type fluently. I am wondering if he could do a class like Middle School Science 1 and be ok with just a headset. His spelling is not awesome, but I still think he could learn and do well....

Cheryl,
Thank you for the clarification. That is helpful. I have the TS1 manual so I’m thinking I will just start prepping the daily activities now (writing the list words out in sentence strips, sentence builder activities, etc...). I did about half of the lessons with my daughter...
