Hi Tanya!
It is in the Poetry, Prose, & Drama (The Old English & Medieval Periods 449-1485) book. The lesson is in assigned in Week 17 in the 8A core, and it is in the student text that the poem is shortened....

Gaudeamus Igitur
The poem in the textbook is 5 stanzas long, but the guide references material from stanza 7. I looked up the full poem and it it much longer than the one provided! I couldn't figure out why my son was having trouble answering the questions.

Hi Natalie!
My oldest son read narrative retellings of The Iliad, but not of The Odyssey. I thought it was useful in helping get a basic sense of the story, so that when they read the books afterwards, the focus was on the beauty of the language and perhaps a deeper understanding...

Jon, thank you so much for the quick, and perfectly logical, response! That does make sense, and as soon as I read your answer aloud, he understood it. Much appreciated!

Fourth Form L.8 Section 8
I have a question about the translations in Henle for this lesson. The English sentence reads "Christians often pray FOR THEMSELVES and FOR ALL MEN. The translation includes the preposition "pro" + the ablative (pro se) but my son translated it with the dative of the reflexive (sibi),...

Phonetically: Sal-vay-tay Ah-mee-chee la-tee-nay/sal-vay ma-jee-stra
It is on the DVD so don't worry!
There is also a pronunciation guide in the teachers manual and student book that covers the vowel sounds and other variances in Latin, but there's really not too many.

I used the Guerber guide for discussion and essay options. I felt like the 200 questions wasn't quite enough in terms of talking through American history, and I wanted us to have some longer discussions about different topics. I did not, however, have my boys write answers to the questions in the books....

I found, as a parent with absolutely no Latin background, that I could pretty well get through FFL and SFL. There weren't a lot of exceptions to things, and I was fairly comfortable.
Then TFL happened.
Have there been any discussions for doing classes for all the Forms? Because...

I'd say 80% of the reason was that I needed it slowed down for ME...but I didn't tell him that! ?...

My oldest son has taken to Latin like a duck to water, and I still had to slow down 3rd Form to 1 lesson every 2 weeks because of how complex it was. I did the 1st/2nd Form Review lessons in a single week, but he really needed the time to sit with the material to KNOW it. Schooling year round and the...

I too miss the built in review. I have done a couple of things. I made copies of the previous quizzes and trotted them out once a week. I also start each lesson by choosing a few questions from the previous section, putting them in the board, and having him solve them as a warm up to the new material....

Michael, thank you so much for the quick reply. Your explanation makes perfect sense. I think I immediately go into panic mode when a sentence starts with one of those pronouns, which are the bane of my existence! It's all downhill from there!
Thanks again. I really appreciate being able...

Third Form Lesson 23
Quick question...in section 6, question 6, the verb in the indicative is dabimus, and we need to put struo into the corresponding subjunctive. The TG says the correct answer is struant. We thought it should be struamus. Can you advise if we went wrong? Thank you!

Michael...I was just coming to edit because I actually figured it out!!! It looks then like we are treating the word full like a predicate adjective: The ship is full. then what it is full.if would be written in the genitive. I was so.excited when the lightbulb went off! Thanks so, so much for your...
