What do you consider a good score for the review lessons? The tests have 50 spellings words. My child is in Spelling Workout G (6th grade).

My sixth grader is not doing well on her tree study quizzes. Would you please share studying techniques you and your student have used for science?
Thank you.

Patterns of Nature samples and sibling study
Would the Patterns of Nature program included in the 2nd grade package be too easy for a 6th grade to do with her 2nd grade sibling? I was thinking of getting two student books. My 6th grader did not do this program yet as it was not offered at the time.
I cannot find any samples online....

2nd Grade Literature Order and Customization
Could you remind me of the order of the literature books for 2nd grade?
Have you ever customized the 2nd grade literature according to your child's reading level?
My oldest was in private school for 2nd grade so this would be my first time doing MP 2nd grade.
Thank...

Read-Alouds for 5th grader, 1st grader and younger sibs
With my 5th grader, 1st grader and their younger sibs, I just finished Trumpet of the Swan as our first semester family read-aloud; they LOVED it! Can you recommend a read-aloud novel for our second semester? These were the ones I was considering keeping in mind the age gap between my oldest two and...

Literature Guide Dictation Guidance
Can you explain how you do dictation with the literature guides in the upper elementary grades? My specific question is how much do you read at a time and wait for the child to write it? How do you challenge them in that as time goes on? For example, in the Heidi literature guide on page 43, how...

Traditional Spelling - Helping My 1st Grade Speller
No matter how many activities, workbook pages or copying of words my 1st grader does she still wants to "sound out" the word rather than remember how she learned how to spell it from all that work over several days. For example, for the dictation for lesson 3 she sounded out the word "pie"...

Re: Heidi Literature Study - Got some book recommendations?
Jen,
Thank you for the ideas! Before going to bed last night, I thought I should have mentioned that I let her watch the movie a couple years ago not remembering or knowing that she'd be reading it for 5th grade...Last edited by thenightbeforechristmas; 10-09-2018, 07:18 AM.

Heidi Literature Study - Got some book recommendations?
Earlier in September I posted the following below but didn't get any bites. : )
Sadly, I think watching Heidi the movie ruined the reading of Heidi for my 5th grader. I let her watch the movie a couple years ago not remembering or knowing that she'd be reading it for 5th grade literature....Last edited by thenightbeforechristmas; 10-09-2018, 06:58 AM.

Re: Ways to Stop or Reduce Complaining
Thank you all for sharing. I found it helpful and encouraging. There is a wealth of wisdom and experience on this forum! Your responses led me to another question.
Do you have homeschool rules or expectations posted or printed out...Last edited by thenightbeforechristmas; 09-16-2018, 12:45 PM.

Ways to Stop or Reduce Complaining
Could you share ways that you’ve successfully reduced or stopped complaining in your homeschool? Should I partly just accept that it’s a major challenge of homeschooling with mom as teacher and home as the school?
I recently came across the book No More Reading For Junk and plan to read...

Heidi and The Door in the Wall Enrichment Materials
We have started 5th grade literature with Heidi. I was wondering if anyone has saved materials or links for the Heidi enrichment activities. Would you be willing to share them? I would love to do the enrichment activities with my 5th grader, but I am finding little time to prepare or do them with...

Traditional Spelling Question (1st grade)
I started Traditional Spelling with my 1st grader today. This is my first time using this spelling curriculum, and I am also new to the "Phonics Flashcards" which were not available when I used the 1st grade MP core for my oldest.
Here's my question: when the Phonics Flashcards...

I saw online that there are two different covers for the Heidi Literature Guides. Is the content the same in both versions?
Heidi Lit Guides OLD?
Heidi is standing with a goat on covers.
Heidi Lit Guide NEW?:
Heidi is sitting on a hill looking away on covers....Last edited by thenightbeforechristmas; 07-28-2018, 04:54 PM.

How do HL teachers or you other creative teacher-parents help kids who just can't seem to remember the rules in their own writing?
