Hi Sarah,
We belong to a co-op that meets for six weeks in the fall and six in the spring. Sometimes we fall a little bit behind, but I build catch-up weeks into our schedule and that helps us not to fall too far behind. If we're really behind, I will do some lessons orally in order to...

What about people who already have the old lesson plans for the grade levels you mentioned? I am getting ready to start first and third grade. My rising first grader will do fine with the old first grade plans because she has already read the Little Bear books and some of the books from the My First...

One more suggestion is to make it easier to see which lesson # has been highlighted when the student is selecting the lesson from the menu. Aside from the two issues that I mentioned, I think the DVD is very helpful.

I agree. I think the DVD is very helpful. I do wish there was a way to skip to different sections of each lesson instead of having to fast forward. We usually watch one section of each lesson per day, rather than watching the entire lesson at once.

I agree. We're still on Lesson 1, but so far I have found the DVD helpful.

I agree. Living Memory is a goldmine, and much cheaper than CCM. I don't have CCM, but I have checked it out and thought it was rather expensive.

We are Catholic, too, and haven't found anything that conflicts with our faith. I believe that Cheryl Lowe and Martin Cothran from Memoria Press are also Catholic.
The literature guides are challenging. Based on what you've written about your soon to be third grader, I don't think she's...

Has anyone tried the Classical Comp video yet?
I saw a sample online and I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy it. Has anyone used it yet? Does it make teaching the program easier?
Thanks,
Susan

Just wanted to mention that there is a Yahoo Group for Catholics who use MP. It's called Memoria Press Catholic.

Hi Amy,
I just wanted to mention that Mr. Popper's Penguins is a very difficult book for 2nd grade. The Scholastic website lists it at grade level 4.9.
Hope this helps,
Sue

I am using AAS right now, but I really need to find a program that is more independent. I have also looked at Phonetic Zoo and Apples and Pears. I wish that Phonetic Zoo didn't cost so much $$,because I would like to try it.
Thanks for the link about Apples and Pears.

I don't dislike it. I haven't tried it yet. I do have one of the books, but I don't kn o w if it will be enough for my dd who is not a natural speller. I think i t would be fine for a good speller.

If you don't use Rod and Staff Spelling...
what do you use? I am looking for a rules-based spelling program that is not too parent-intensive. We're currently using All About Spelling, but I have to admit that I don't get to it as often as I should. People on other homeschool forums have mentioned How to Teach Spelling along with the How to Spell...

It's working great for us, too, but I would agree with Theresa that it would be nice to have longer lines. That said, though, I have noticed that my daughter has improved her ability to write smaller letters in cursive.
