Due to the wonderful fact that my first grandbaby is due at the same time as the conference this summer, I will be signing up for the virtual side of the conference. I will really miss getting to meet all my MP friends, but hopefully next year!
Questions: When I try to register, it asks me to select a "track". I assume I will have access to all tracks even if I select a main one? Same question for the teacher training- I'd like to attend a mix of different tracks depending on the topic at a given time. Will the virtual conference be much like last year where we can jump in and out of sessions as needed in whichever track we want at that time?

Hi Debbie! Since they're recording multiple live sessions in different physical locations, there's less flexibility on the tech side of things. During the virtual conference you'll only have access to the track you select. After the conference, you'll receive access to recordings from the other tracks.

The virtual teacher training will only give access to the track you select at registration, but I'm not clear what the video options will be after the conference. howiecram, do you remember what was happening on that front?

Thank you both. I’m just thrilled there is even a virtual option. I had assumed it would be one or the other. It must be quite a headache to try to do both. Alright, I’ll pick my preferred track and then watch others later. I’m now thinking I’ll pass on teacher training. I don’t really *need* it, just wanted to glean some tidbits browsing through it like last year.

Hi Carrie MP or @tanya... is there any word on this yet? I would love to virtually attend both Sodalitas and Teacher Training, but since the homeschool and regular school curriculum don't exactly line up, I would need a mix of the teacher training workshops (some 5th grade, some 6th grade) to cover the ones I was hoping to attend. I am happy to purchase both conferences, but I just wanted to check beforehand and make sure I would get access to the TT workshop recordings afterward. Thanks!

What would be the advantage, if any, for homeschool parents to attend the Teacher Training online? I have signed up for Sodalitas online, and this is my first upcoming year of (mostly) full MP.

Does the Teacher Training provide more input for the homeschooling parent (for students older than grade/level 3)? Just trying to figure out if it's hands down beneficial, or better to just start with Sodalitas the first year.

Hello.

The teacher training for primary and grammar school is actually sitting in a classroom with teachers who teach at HLS for two days. They go through each subject, giving model lessons on how we teach each one. They also talk about pedagogy (how we require students to raise hands, how we play group games, how we transition to breaks, etc.). So some of this would be valuable to you, but you would need to discern the pieces you can use. Definitely how we approach each subject would be helpful, but is it worth it to you to sift through to that information? Probably since it is really the core of what we are doing. The upper school seminars are the same, only they are specific subjects rather than walking through an entire school day. But they are showing how we teach a lesson: recitation & review, vocabulary, reading notes, how to read (teacher read vs. student read), comprehension questions, test review, etc.

kayteebee Is you have the time and money I vote a huge YES to the teacher training grade specific tracks for your upcoming cores. I always learn so much from these sessions that help me know many options for creativity within my own homeschool. By that I mean the freedom to know things like, "At HLS they don't ever do this section of Y student book because they focus on this skill in the X subject instead," or a teacher saying "I think this book is the crown jewel of this grade, and you need to make sure to do it well." Those nuggets help you orient yourself to how the Curriculum is actually used and tweaked and it will give you ideas/freedom to tweak it as well. The materials provide more than you'll be able to do. And that's a good thing because they are a resource. However, it takes some discernment at home to know where to trim and what parts are most essential to the long term trajectory. Just my 2 cents.
