    Sodalitas 2017

Everyone, please find the final updated schedule here. Note the Special Needs Track schedule with session locations on the second page.

    New: SC Spelling Summit
At some point I would like to convene a Spelling Summit to include SusanP, sfhargett, Colomama, howiecram, Anita, and any other SC friends attending. We might attempt this during the Sup & Shop Monday and again during lunch Tuesday, if everyone is not too busy at those times. I am bringing a narrowed selection of spelling options for you to peruse and discuss.

Also New: Scope & Sequence SC Levels 1 - 8
We will have handouts of the proposed scope & sequence chart/curriculum map for SC Math and SC Latin through SC Level 8, for those of you who like to plan ahead. I will share these during the special-needs Math & Latin sessions.

(You know you're a classical educator when ... you pack more papers and books than clothing!)

My very excited daughter and I leave in the morning.

    Safe travels, all.

Yay for a long term scope and sequence! My dh supports me using Simply Classical, but would love to see the big picture. He's very nervous about my son being 'behind' and I think a tentative road map would help him.

Spelling is a tricky placement so I would love to get together and chat, especially as a group. I learn so much from all you ladies' differing experiences.

And packing. Yes. I packed all my clothes in a small suitcase and realized I had no room for all of my show and tell stuff. Ha. Switched to a larger suitcase. I'm sure TSA was baffled, "Bob, come look, this one packed her rolling pin!" Haha
Married to DH for 14 years. Living the rural life in the Colorado mountains

      DS11- Simply Classical 5/6
DD9- Simply Classical 5/6 (neurotypical, but schooling with big brother to save mom's sanity)
DD 6- Classic Core First Grade

      We've completed:
Classic Core Jr. kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.
      Simply Classical levels B, C, 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Excited to see you all! Leaving (hopefully) by 7am so I have a peace about making it to Mimi's by 6pm. Picked up 'Cry, the Beloved Country' on audio cd at my library as well as Louis Markos (Great Courses) teaching 'The writings of CS Lewis.' (Cheryl, I thought of you knowing how much you like him!)
We'll see if these hold my scattered, middle-aged attention span. (Did I tell you I crossed the threshold into the 2nd century of my life this week? Yikes!)

I cannot wait. I'm hoping to leave pretty early as well. So ready. I have four audio books to switch back and forth with.

I love the idea of looking over spelling programs. And I'd love to see a scope and sequence too.

SusanP -- I'm thinking you meant second half century or you have aged amazingly well for being over 100 years old. Hee hee.

BaHaHaHa.....like, I said, middle-aged brain. Yes, Susan, what I really meant was that I crossed over into the 2nd half century. Just downloaded 'Jayber Crow' with an audible free 30-day membership. I'm long overdue for Wendell Berry!

                  Re: Sodalitas 2017

Thank you to all who attended this year! Special thanks to Michelle (Colomama) and Anita (Anita) for leading SC sessions. Between these two homeschoolers, they have taught from SC A, B, C, 1, 2, and are both embarking on SC 3. Look for more of these SC sessions next year!

                  Several notes:

                  1. Spelling
Thanks to those who managed to find me to squeeze in some spelling perusals. The good news: late in the conference I learned of another well-ordered option that is compatible with Classical Phonics! This will be very helpful for next levels. (More on this in the months to come.) Until then, I heard from several homeschoolers that the simplicity, order, and thoroughness of Simply Classical Spelling at our lower levels is much appreciated. Or, as one homeschooler said, "SC Spelling is straightforward; it does not give me a headache like the others out there on the market! )

                  2. My Michelle
Thank you to all who were so good to my Michelle. Inspired by everyone there, she is clearing her writing desk and, especially after listening to Dr. Carol Reynolds and Andrew Pudewa, says she is removing all "needlessly immature, ugly, and questionable" books from her shelves, so the best and most beloved can stand. She chattered happily all the way home.

                  3. Photos!
You can find new Sodalitas 2017 photos on my public FB page with more on my FB author page and on our Simply Classical Families FB page. If you enjoy them, please "like," "friend," or "follow" any or all of these pages to stay in touch.

                  4. Attendance
For those of you who did not attend, know that we exploded this year! Last year we doubled our attendance from the first year, but this year we quadrupled that first year ... twice. (We octupled!) So good to meet and see everyone.

                  5. New to Forum?
If you are new to our SC Forum from Sodalitas 2017, welcome! Jump right in. Ask questions, read, or just share your thoughts. We would love to hear from you.

                  6. Sodalitas 2018
Sodalitas dates have been set. Save them on your calendar to join us July 9-10, 2018.

                  7. SC Users
If you think you might enjoy leading (or at least be willing to lead!) a session at Sodalitas 2018, please contact me here with your ideas: cherylswope@memoriapress.com. YOU have far more to share than you might realize.
