Enrichment works, even if you think you are failing! :)

I posted this on the "regular" board but wanted to post here, since this past year we used SC, exclusively!

    --------------------
We did MPK my first year with MP, but had to move over to the Simply Classical last year. I had both children doing Simply Classical, but this year will delve back into the "regular" MP track. Anyway, we have done enrichment, both years. The first year was MPK enrichment and last year was SC2 (Sc2 uses MP2 art cards). We have really only be able to achieve about 20 weeks each year. Of course the Mom guilt comes on, but even though we have "only" completed 20 weeks each year, they are learning! I also feel a bit of mom guilt with my current 4 year old. I have tried to sit down formally with her, but it has not happened. Amazingly, she is learning! HA! Last night my husband was reading her a Bible story (I didn't hear the story though). I walked into the room and hear my husband discussing the devil with her. She says "oh, it's like the picture with the snake"! (she is referring to a card in MP2). In SC2, it was tied to the Garden of Eden Bible Story. The story my husband read was not that one, but I still thought it was interesting that she made that connection!!

We will be doing SC3 this year with my oldest and it uses all the art cards from MPK-MP2. I bought a 5x7 photo album and put them in order of the weeks. When I pulled it out to show her the picture she was referring too, she was very excited. This morning at breakfast, she made more discoveries, flipping through them all. "Hey Mommy, this is just like the card on the calendar". (Wait, you have been nothing the pictures on the calendar???) I have made no mention, really of them! Oh and look, this one too! Oh and wait, this was one was on the wall in our school room.

So, yes, the Enrichment works, even if you only get through 20 weeks. Here's to hoping that year 3 we get through more!

Making connections: one of my favorite things about a classical education.

    Good for her!
