    Level 1 Copybook question

Nathan has reached the week where he copies his first Bible verse. The lesson plans give him several days to write, draw a picture to illustrate the verse, proofread, etc. However he just traced it, because the verse is printed in the book. Is that right, or should he write it on other paper? That is so much harder. Thanks

Nathan should do whatever he is ready for. If he is not ready to copy the verses, tracing them is fine. He will be getting lots of letter writing practice in FSR and will get stronger and more confident as your year progresses. I wouldn't push too hard at the beginning. Tracing the letters is fine!

You are correct in that the first Copybook lesson is just tracing. That is the lesson we use to teach expectations for Copybook. It usually occurs early in the school year. We teach the 3 P's (posture, pencil grip and paper position). Since this lesson is on week 3 this is still being learned. We also talk about the importance of copying each letter right under the corresponding letter above so all words will fit on a page. Then we discuss letter spacing ( how no letters should be touching but letters that go within the same word should be closer together than letters in a different word). Basically we use that introductory verse to teach Copybook expectations. We memorize the verse, teach the language lesson, trace, and illustrate.
