Hello,
I was introduced to Simply Classical because I listened to some presentations Cheryl gave at the Special Needs Conference in Orlando. I have been reading the book and cannot put it down! I haven't been this excited about homeschooling in a long time. It came at a perfect time as we have just recently started some different therapies and are going to see more specialists.
I really love Mp and the ease of use it appears to have. I just need some help picking out curriculum.
I have six children and my oldest is 9. She really doesn't have any issues, except speech for the r and th sounds. She has been doing Sonlight and just finished the first cycle of World History so I was thinking putting her in the accelerated 3rd grade so she could learn some American History. She also has dyslexia, but it doesn't seem to hinder her very much, except in her writing.
My twins who are 8 are my kiddos who are struggling the most. They were just diagnosed with severe auditory processing disorder, but it was strongly suggested to get a psycho-educational evaluation to check for other issues as well. That appt is in July and I am also looking to having them assessed for autism because they also have a lot of sensory issues and behavior issues. They are now reading small books, mostly cvc books. In math, they are doing math- u-see and are in Alpha. My first thought would be to put them in the Simply Classical level 1. I am really trying to build up their confidence right now. They are aware that learning is a struggle for them and they are starting to get frustrated their 5 year old sister is quickly catching up to them. They have started OT and ST. They also have dyslexia.
I have a 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son who love to do school and like to be included with the big kids. I was thinking they could tag along with the Simply Classical level 1, but buy them the additional K resources for just them to do, like the cutting and enrichment. My reason for combining and not getting them their own program is because I have a one year old who gets sick very easily and had surgery to get ear tubes and is having surgery on a clogged tear duct next month. The poor little guy just needs a lot of attention so I don't want to overwhelm myself with too many levels.
Please give me your feedback on my plan. Sorry for writing a book.
Cheryl, thank you so much for your beautiful book!! I am so inspired and cannot wait to teach all my children about the beauty and truth in the world. I am hoping to also embrace it myself. I have become so overwhelmed lately that school has become drudgery and I really want to have joy back in my home during school. I am Lutheran as well, and have joined the forums on ccle.org and hope to glean wisdom from them as well. I also purchased your daughter's poetry book and am reading it with my 9 year old. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
