    Thanks, Miah.

I looked at the 8-week review plans again last night. With 3-4 core books, you could do quite a few of the daily lessons to coordinate with Do It Carefully & Everywhere We Go. Then you could supplement from the library for the read-alouds.

Of course Tanya is correct. You would not be able to follow the complete program, because the Level B Review plans assume the teacher has everything from Level B! But if you're interested in piecing together such a summer program, let us know.

If you want something structured for your little "Sprout," it might be worth having the daily plans to do this.

How is he doing with his new services? Do you like his therapist(s)? Fill us in, if you have time.

      Level C or Junior K

My daughter turns 4 in July, I am wondering if Level C will be out before September? I am trying to decide between Level C and adapting the Junior K program.

Thank you for all your hard work and support, I am a lurker and I find all the advice here very helpful. I also think the Special Needs packages look wonderful!

        Welcome out of "lurkdom," Beth!

Yes, Level C is scheduled to appear in just a few weeks. Level C's component parts are in production right now.

Over the past year, we created all three readiness levels with a view to design & format for summer release. If all goes as planned, you will easily have Level C in time for teaching this fall.

This comparison & contrast might help:

        Similarities -

The book selections in MP JrK and Level C are almost identical.
Both programs include the Memoria Press Alphabet Books and Number Books.
Both intend to prepare the child for reading, writing, and early arithmetic.
Both intend to develop a love of stories and a delight in books.
Both intend to provide a structured, yet gentle introduction to learning.
Both intend to preserve and enhance the wonder, joy, and playfulness of early childhood.

        Differences -

        1) Level C offers more intentionally integrated subject matter. We recognize the benefits for the special-needs child of cross-teaching with repetition; consequently, the read-alouds, oral language exercises, fine-motor activities, poetry, games, devotions, and even the animal/science lessons correspond clearly to the letter-of-the-week!
        2) Level C provides adapted reading comprehension questions for children whose oral language or reasoning abilities might be limited.
        3) Level C charts include more visual cues. For example, we offer a "focused" alphabet chart with only those letters taught the first semester highlighted in bold to improve attention to detail.
        4) Perhaps surprisingly, Level C adds a more challenging enrichment option in science and animal studies. This is included especially for the older student who loves to absorb facts but whose reading, writing, and math readiness abilities remain at a lower level. (My experiences with my son Michael, an Asperger-type child on the autism spectrum, influenced this addition. His intense inquisitiveness often outpaced a standard curriculum. Many moms with children on the autism spectrum will understand!) This optional 15-20 minute-a-day animal study is also designed to improve sustained attention and interest for any child without requiring a written response.
        5) Level C allows more time for learning recitations and memorizing prayers with a slower progression and fewer items to learn by heart.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. If you are willing to elaborate on your daughter's needs & challenges, we can guide you more directly in your decision.

Either way, your daughter will receive a strong foundation!

        Thanks-
        Cheryl

Thank you Cheryl, the compare and contrast was very helpful! I'm excited that we will be able to use level C in the fall, it seems like it will be a good fit for us.

            Dear Beth,

Just a quick curriculum note while attending the excellent Memoria Press conference in Louisville:

Level C is now available for purchase!

If anyone reading does not yet know which level your child needs, consider the online readiness assessments.

If you have any further questions about placement, feel free to post here!

            Thanks-
            Cheryl

I'm truly drooling over these levels. My younger one doesn't need it but I may do it just because! Is there a timline that you are hoping to move forward with other levels? Level C would have been a great fit for my older dd this past year but she's mostly beyond it this year. I'm modifying 1st a lot (it's kind of more like the second half of kindergarten to be honest)

                  Hi, Katie.

We hope to catch up with your daughter by this time next year! If all goes as planned, we'll release Levels 1 & 2 in the summer of 2015. We will include skills assessments, so you can evaluate whether Level 1 or 2 might be suitable for her at that time.

You're not alone in considering the early curriculum packages "just because." New moms, homeschoolers, and preschool teachers appreciate Levels A, B, and C (the readiness levels) for the gentle lessons and good children's books.

If you have not yet seen this quote, I think you'll appreciate this:

"So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,

Go throw your TV set away,

And in its place you can install

A lovely bookshelf on the wall."

                  - Roald Dahl, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Puffin Books, 1988, p. 148.

                  Thanks -
                  Cheryl
