Woo-hoo! I was torn when the listing said “significant needs”. But I know C would do far better with the shorter classes, more interaction, and where his spelling struggles wouldn’t be so glaring. I’m going to talk with him and J and see if this could work for us this year. The accountability in literature would be huge for him.

Question: I think the “grownup-ness” of MPOA would be very good for him from a maturity standpoint, but I know he’s really looking forward to some of the literature books in 7/8. Due to the class’s one book per semester pace, do you think it could work to do one of the 7/8 selections at the same time each semester (so one MPOA, one home each semester)? Or would that be too much?

I think that would depend on the student and his reading ability. If he is able to read two books simultaneously and keep them straight, he should be fine. If you discovered that the 7/8 selection was interfering with his ability to maintain the depth and pacing of the SC 6 selection, you could set it aside.

An idea: Maybe it would be good to plan on the 7/8 books but wait until he has experienced 4-5 weeks of the MPOA Lit class before adding them.

His reading is at age level now but that’s a good point about keeping everything straight. I would probably need to forgo quizzes/tests for the 7/8 selections but I know he would be fine for the individual lessons.

That’s a fantastic idea of waiting to start the 7/8 books. Thank you!
