    SC vs Moderated

i am looking for a synopsis of the difference between moderated 3 and SC 5&6. I ordered both manuals, but I was wondering if there was an article somewhere that explains what all has been cut out of the moderated track. I am looking to understand SC better. Thank you.

    The key differences are:

    Spelling:
3M - Spelling Workout, 5/6 Traditional Spelling II

    Writing:
3M - All Things Fun and Fascinating, 5/6 Intro to Composition
No student guides for Literature, Greek Myths or Christian Studies in 5/6. You use the teacher's manual and more info is discussed orally. You can have the child answer some questions, write them down on a board and have him/her copy it in a notebook. There is an option to add them.

    Science:
    3M - Mammals Sc 5/6 - R&S Grade 3 science (Mammals was scheduled in SC4)

    Pace:
If you do the one year pace for 5/6, it is roughly the same, but Latin is scheduled everyday (vice in 3M only 3x per week) and the Classical Studies/Christian Studies breaks up the composition questions over a few days, rather than all in one day. If you do 5/6 one year pace you also finish Christian Studies/Greek Myths, English Grammar Recitation, Literature on par with 3rd accelerated.

    SC Guide Tips:
The SC guide is full of more review ideas, tips, games, etc.

So, the recommendation is to get the 5/6 two year pace. This puts you more on par with 3M in the above subjects, but you would only finish 1/4 of Latin. I highly recommend the two year pace of SC 5/6. We started the year with the 1 year pace, but after 10 solid weeks of only finish "1/2" a day each and every day, it just made sense. I have found that we can complete 10 days of work in about 7 days. A few of the review weeks we also don't need. Our homeschool life is much better now and we both feel accomplished! We will finish SC5/6 year one around the first week of May (we started the first week of August). He is still going to finish 3rd grade math (we didn't do a two year pace for that), so I largely ignore that row, except do the next lesson. We will also finish all of LC this year, as he started that last year. The second half of LC is actually scheduled in 7/8. (the second half of LC is also scheduled in the 4th grade core).

*note, I own 3A, 3M, 5/6 one year AND two year and the 4M curriculum guides! Let me see if I can find a more detailed post I wrote about a year ago.
