SC 9&10 lesson plans are in the queue for formatting, but other MP projects are ahead of us. We will wait patiently and refrain from projecting a release date for SC 9&10 until we are closer.

I am so excited about the SC 7/8 guide coming out! I need it to get the second half of the Latina Christiana lesson plans! Will it be next week? And (the inevitable question), when will 9/10 come out?

Is the SC 7/8 Curriculum Guide ready to order? I'm getting ready to place my order for next year (because what else does anyone do during social distancing?), and wanted to make sure.

    Hello.

We have been working on a vocabulary dictionary for grammar school lit that would cover all our lit guides for 3rd-7th grades. It will be bigger and more difficult because of all the words. We are currently working on the pronunciation part. I don't know when we will be finished and ready to go to print. Maybe fall, but I don't know. My people get upset if I start making promises!

A recommendation / request for this new level.... A literature vocabulary book that matches the books assigned in this level.

I have found the third grade vocabulary dictionary very helpful and would love to purchase one that goes with this literature set. I had no idea alphabetization would be so challenging and the dictionary is really helping with this skill. It also helps to have the definition match what will be on the tests.

Okay, thank you for clarifying these things Cheryl. I will look again at samples online of the R&S spelling 5 to see if that would be a good next step for him. In SWO we do usually read that long passage, but not always. As for the misspelled words section, we have always ignored that based on Cheryl Lowe’s strong advice to do so.

    I appreciate your insight!

Hi, Susan. These are reasonable questions.

Spelling -- R&S may have some advantages over SWO for some of our Simply Classical students, especially those who do not need large reading passages to accompany spelling lessons, or those for whom lists of misspelled words might hinder progress. However, if your son is making good strides with SWO, I see no compelling reason to switch him.

English -- We plan to review EGR I in SC 7&8 and resume EGR II to coordinate with FFL in SC 9&10. At the request of many, this year in SC 7&8 we are focusing on the basics of composition, grammar, and the mechanics of writing in R&S's characteristically systematic way before embarking next year (possibly) on Classical Composition: Fable.

    I hope that helps --

    Cheryl

    Hi Cheryl,

Was wondering if I could get insight on the R&S selections with this new SC 7&8 level coming out soon. Can you help me understand better the preference of the R&S spelling over, say, moving into the Spelling Workout? If my son is doing ok in Spelling Workout E, would he possibly move into R&S Spelling 4 or R&S Spelling 5 if I were to decide to switch over?

Does the selection of the R&S English 4 mean you are moving away from using the EGR books in the future SC levels? The R&S English is a LOT of work in each lesson I noticed.

Do you envision using the R&S Spelling and English books for each of the following SC levels? Moving into the level 5 books in SC 9/10?

Given my sons older age for the level of work he is doing, I do feel that I need to analyze the best next steps for him, a path that helps remediate his challenges in comprehension and oral/written expression. (Although he appears to be an okay speller, and even appears to have a decent grasp of grammar and punctuation. In the same way he’s an intuitive speller, he appears to have an intuition with grammar and punctuation .....somewhat.)

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me.
