I am not sure where you are, Anita. I am very happy to travel any place that I can drive in one day instead of in 3 days. We are in Frisco, Colorado which is about an hour from Denver.

Kremmling is 'close' in rural terms. I'm the next town north of Kremmling. An hour north, but I still consider Kremmling close. We should definitely meet up when you come this way again.

I think CHEC is ridiculously expensive. Why anyone would ever pay $100 just to get a shoppers pass is beyond me. I went once and volunteered so that I could get in for free.

We are an hour south of Kremmling. About 10 miles north of Kremmling there is a Bureau of Land Management site with a lot of fossils that I really want to go to. We should definitely do that this spring or in the fall, and get to meet!

            Re: Sodalitis 2018

Y'all I am so sad that I'm not going to be able to make it this summer either. I have been dragging my feet on registering and I finally accepted that I need to stay home this summer. There are lots of family things we need to dig in and work on before we begin a new school year and I am just not up to a 10 hour drive again this year. The sessions and plenaries look amazing and would fill my soul with goodness but I can't say that I NEED them this year. Next year when we are really beginning Latin, maybe it will be more necessary, but this year I have a good plan of what to do and I know how to teach most of the things I will be teaching.

I will be going to the IHM National conference in Fredericksburg in a few weeks if any MP people are going to be there. It's only 3.5 hours away from me.

I hope to be back next year.

Maybe they have nannies or their husbands take those days off? I really just don't know.
I've been to GHC twice (Midwest, in Cincinnati) once with my husband, once without. We went together the first time, taking our newborn son (now 4!), while my best friend kept all of his older siblings. This spring, I went solo, while my husband stayed home with our children. He works from home, and I also work outside the home part-time, so child wrangling is just another day in the life for him. GHC has an option for 'convention camp' (I forget the official term), but it's never been an option I wanted to utilize.

Homeschool conventions are part reunion, part shopping trip, part teacher training for me. In other words, they are a vital part of my homeschooling package.

Sodalitas and the Teacher Training are like no other. As JodiSue says, "You won't find a Bath Fitter booth here."

It's all about MP. Everyone is on the classical homeschooling path. It enables me to be the best classically homeschooling momma I can be. I block the week out in my calendar, and soak up all the goodness, truth and beauty for the week; gearing up for an amazing school year.

                Re: Sodalitis 2018

Susie-Q! My fellow 'Suze.' LOL! Don't ya love how I've assigned you nicknames I completely don't know are okay? (I have a friend who does this and somehow gets away with it!) I will miss you. I actually haven't registered yet. I've also been dragging my feet. For some reason, there are so very few breakouts that I feel 'work' for me or relate to my situation. But I have a friend to drive out with from the area, a new friend from our new church ....and we're launching a HLS 'partner school' co-op situation at our parish. So I'll probably do the Latina Christiana pre-conference sessions but wondering what I'll be doing during the Monday-Tuesday sessions other than attending the fabulous Jen's 'executive function' session. This friend is staying the whole week, which I can't do. So that means a solo drive from KY to VA on Wednesday night which I'm not thrilled about. And given the fact that both our cars are very old, I'm even more nervous!

On another note....that IHM conference is only 45 minutes away from me! I went last year and will probably be there again this year. I get to hang with a few of my Catholic friends there, as one of the only non-Catholics in attendance. Love that it's rather small and FREE. Free is so very good. I'd love to connect with you there! And if you change your mind about SG, I'm sure my friend and I can coordinate with you about the drive out there.

                Hugs,
                SusanP

                  Re: Sodalitis 2018

                  Colomama and Jeje:

We are about 35 minutes NE of Denver. And we NEED MP, mile high, we-can-do-hard-things mugs. The coolest idea about Sodalitas, West, is that it mostly takes place outside and is basically free . The kids can take care of themselves.

You’ve hit the nail on the head with the whole childcare thing.
                  WE ARE HOMESCHOOLERS.
                  HOME.SCHOOL.ERS.
Provide some cotton-pickin childcare, for crying out loud!

This is the main reason I don’t get more involved in parish activities. Same story: we are Catholic.
                  CATH-O-LIC.
                  Catholics come with children.
                  Particularly Catholic mothers.
                  Get some cotton-picking child care!
                  Sheesh.

Sodalitas is my excuse to meet everyone, hug everyone, listen to stories, share mine, help others and be helped by others — mostly for morale. I, like Susan, don’t really anticipate needing much help with teaching this upcoming year. So we’ve examined costs and logistics and have had to say “next year”. But I’ll miss everyone, the laughter, the tears, the FABULOUS food (seriously, y’all — thank the cook; she’s incredible) and getting to meet new best friends. Sodalitas is like homeschool summer camp for me. It’s a great way to get away and have adventure and fun. I wish I could come.

I am rather new to this SC forum but I feel right at home. The conference sounds amazing! I actually met a family a few weeks ago who lives in Louisville and said I would have housing if I ever came to the Soldatis conference. Alas, we are in Mexico!

Will there be an audio CD of the conference available for purchase?

Video recordings will be available! All of our main Simply Classical sessions were recorded except the more personal, intimate ones, for the sake of privacy. The Sodalitas plenaries and Memoria Press Classical Core sessions were also recorded.

All of these take time to process, but we will announce when we hear that they are ready.

Just for fun, attached is our very own "howiecram" teaching on the multisensory components of the Simply Classical Curriculum.

And I think one year we had someone come to MP from Australia, so Mexico is really not that far.
