Re: Placement "test" for writing classes
Hi,
You asked:
Is there a placement "test" or tool for parents to use to determine which high school writing class to enroll their student in?
There is no one-size-fits-all placement test. As Michelle noted if your student has not gone through the stages then he/she would start at the beginning. However, we have had some students who have done Fable at home, or Narrative, or they have done a really loosely organized program that is similar. What we do in that case is have your student email us a sample of the Fable or Narrative and I give it to one of our comp teachers to take a look at.
If your student is brand-new to what is called the progymnasmata method then he/she would start at the beginning with High School Composition I (if in high school).
Thank you!

Re: Placement "test" for writing classes
Unless the student is familiar with he stages of Classical Composition, they would need to start with the beginning stage. The early stages can be progressed through at a faster pace, but everyone needs to start at the beginning. We suggest a Fable/Narrative combo.
