How many weeks are in a school year in the lesson plans?

How many weeks do I need to finish a year-long set of lesson plans? Are they all the same? Is it the same number of weeks for elementary courses as it is for high school courses? I'm just trying to plan next year's school calendar.

No easy answer there - there is a bit of variation depending on the grade level. My kids just checked and they range from 31-34 weeks. What grades are you wondering about? We can probably let you know without having to wait until Monday...

Thanks for your help! I was specifically looking at Traditional Logic I&II, Geography I, Geography III, Famous Men of Rome, Latina Christiana I (one year), and Spelling Workout F.

I guess what I really need to know is: Are there any lesson plans for more than 34 weeks? I've been doing this awhile and know that 34 weeks of actual lessons is our max. And I like to finish things.

In the primary years there are a few levels that run 34 weeks though not every subject is continued that long. Most finish in 33.

            Traditional Logic I - 15 weeks
Traditional Logic II - 19 weeks
            Geography I - 32 weeks + final exam
            FMOR - 32 weeks + final exam
            SWO F - 30 weeks of lessons + 3 weeks of review

I don’t have Geog III plans on hand; nor do I have the one year pace of LC. Anyone else got those?

My 3A Guide has LC at 33 Weeks.

I wanted to offer this as an option too. If you do run into a subject that has more weeks than you desire to work, you could plan on doubling up lessons for one or two weeks early in the year so you don’t have to extend your school year. Just something to consider.

... I have Geography III at 34 weeks in my curriculum guide. So, nothing longer than 34!

RunnerJoy's idea of doubling a lesson or two early on is one that's worked well here, when we need to shorten something (usually an outside course that we import into our MP work -- those are often 36 weeks).

That's good news. I'm wanting to switch to more MP this year, and I'm very tired of 36-week curricula. I'll use RunnerJoy's idea if I need to, but I'm hoping it won't be necessary.

You might like to hear this, then, too. My 5M plans, even though they have the 33rd week scheduled, are really 32 weeks plus the dribs and drabs to finish everything in week 33. It looks like "32 weeks plus finals".
