Classical Studies for 7A - gap year -

My rising 7th grader is on a modified track, because we grouped Classical Studies with siblings and he started before the curriculum shift down. I am finding that we need to "fill a gap" this year.

He is on the regular 7th grade track except for literature and classical studies. I plan for him to do the 8th grade literature set as suggested. I have a gap for American/Modern and Classical Studies. He did the 200 Qs this year and I do not want to put him in the Iliad/Odyssey yet. Call it "mom" intuition but I think he will get more out of it in 8th grade.

Suggestions? I plan to add Geography III. For Classical Studies, I was thinking of giving him a year long review with the timeline program as the "backbone" Since he has covered all of the Famous Men, I thought I could divide the year into fourths, and review Rome/Greece/Middle Ages/200 Qs (Modern), and supplement with biographies assigned from the library. We have all of the flash cards and also benefit from all of the generous parents out there who have created Quizlet sets. I am also looking at Novare Earth Science.

Has anyone done something similar? I am not a fan of making up my own lesson plans - I confess to being spoiled by MP. This just seems like a year that we need to slow down and master before going forward.

Am I missing any traps here?

That's a good idea. I think I will order the set.

It seems like that might be a great filler and you could simply do one lesson per week. Planning done! Perhaps that and drilling the other Famous Men/Greek Myths drill questions will be enough. I'd think less is more.

That was the plan, to drill the others. Plus, we need to get the timeline back up on the wall after a move, so I will put him in charge of that as he goes through each time period in review.

          Thanks for the input!

That is what we did this year for our 7th grader along with Mr. Midshipman Hornblower as a free read and it was a good fit.
