Junior K craft book questions

1) for the Junior K craft book it frequently says "Print template onto ___ paper". Especially with the perfect bound type of book, this is difficult even to photocopy. Is it possible to get a pdf of the templates so they are easier to print?

2) how do you manage to print onto construction paper. I never find construction paper that's 8.5 x 11....... Last time around, I'd photocopy the template onto regular printer paper, cut it out, then trace it on the construction paper and then cut that shape out....lots of annoying work. Am I missing something really simple??

I don't know how they intended it but I would usually just use the template itself (tear or cut it out) or draw what the template looked like directly onto my construction paper as they were usually pretty simple lines.

I ended up doing that with some of them with my older copy (beta) but I don't want to cut up the new copy and then have to keep track of the parts for the next kid. I know I'll lose them.

I can't release a pdf with the templates because they are half the book, but when we print a long-run print on this book, we will perf the pages so they can be torn out easily. Then, you could store them in a binder. We'll be glad to replace yours with a perfed one for the next student. Surely we'll have it done by then. We are just trying to make sure we have all the kinks worked out before we print thousands, so it is on a short-run print right now. Staples will chop the binding off for you, and then you can use it for this student while you wait for us to perf!

I'm not sure about the construction paper. I did have some 8 1/2 x 11 paper when I was teaching, but I can't remember where I bought it. I mostly used colored copy paper because I liked the color options better.

Good idea about getting the binding cut off. I can put the whole thing in a binder then. I'm looking forward to the perforated version and, you're right, I won't need it for a bit.....nearly 4 years. Waiting on the new dd within the next couple weeks

I have used some 24lb colored paper for some things but I haven't found a great selection on colors without buying entire reams per color which is pricey. I'll keep my eyes open though. That's certainly easier than tracing it all out!

How I do it

I cut the construction paper to size, usually by trimming the long side. I don't worry about the short side, but that could be trimmed as well. Then I put that into the paper feeder in the printer and copy as usual.
Also if the binding is cut (or with perforated sheets), I use a cheap binder and sheet protectors from the dollar store to keep the book together so I don't have to punch holes.

I think I'll end up doing this, especially since i'm not finding good colors in the printing section. Good thing I bought a paper cutter last year

I feel like i'm the queen of binders! haha! i get my LP's by subject since we're at drastically different locations in the subjects. I print & then put them all in one binder. I have binders for all sorts of things

Are there supposed to be craft books for K and 1st too? I don't see them on the website. Am I missing something somewhere?

as far as I know, there aren't craft books for the other grades. The closest are the enrichment books which are more like questions for the readings and info about the art and music etc for the week. It also has info and ideas for the science and socials studies topics.

First grade craft book will not happen for this school year. We are close on Kindergarten, though I guess that doesn't help you!

That's ok. Still happy since my younger dd will be able to use the K one next year.
