We tried the first lesson using the DVD, but dd needed a little more handholding - particularly on the outlines. I worked through the next few lessons with her and then slowly moved her back to the video. After a bit, she was able to do it mostly independently.

A few of the days are longer for paraphrasing and outlining but some days are really short. My son does all of it independently and then we review it together. If your child isn't a fast writer you can mix in some dictation and write for them. Gradually he didn't even watch the DVD once he found the rhythm.
If you are using the fourth grade lesson plan it will take you two weeks to complete each lesson/fable. At this pace it's very manageable. If you don't plan to use the entire fourth grade core you can purchase the lesson plan independently here http://www.memoriapress.com/curriculum/individual-lesson-plans-subject under "Writing and English Grammar" for $8. This will help you work through most of the workbook over the course of one year.

Sorry, I forgot to ask as well, as a first time user of Classical Composition, how long does it take per day to lead a grade 4 student through the lesson? Do you think after a couple weeks he could do it fairly independently? He's a good reader.
Again, thank you ;0)Tags: None
