    Poetry progression

    Tanya,
My current seventh grader has not yet done the American poetry anthology because she has been in a class with friends covering poetry and public speaking. Next year for eighth, she will not have that class, and will therefore be doing the full eighth grade poetry and lit. Should she go back and do the seventh grade book first? Is it necessary to do the poetry anthologies in order? I would like to leave it as is, with the time periods of lit and poetry lined up, but also don't want to miss something either. I looked at the TOC of the seventh, and she has read many but certainly not all of the pieces included.

    Thanks!
    Sarah

    Hi, Sarah.

You don't need to go back and do the American poetry. It is independent of the other poetry. Starting with the 8th grade, the next 3 years will be a chronological study of British poetry, so you be getting in at the beginning of that.

    Cheers,

    Tanya
