    Science question for 7th grade...

I have a (going to be) 7th grader next year and am looking for a
science curriculum. Reading about how the "middle school" child needs
a good overview of all the "fields" of science before high school.
Has anyone ever just taken a Science Encyclopedia and had their child
just read a few pages a day and report back - say 3 sentences per
paragraph - a day? I'm thinking of this approach only because we have
haven't had a very "broad" exposure of all the "fields" of science. We
have taken specialized classes such as "chemestry, astronomy, and
detective science" for the last 2 years. I feel I need to at least
lightly "cover" all the areas for a couple of years before high school.
    What are your opinions?
I have purchased the Usborne Internet Link Science Encyclopedia to try
with this approach. It has quizzes and experiments in it already as
    well.
What do you think of this as an "overview" of all the sciences for 7th
    (and possibley 8th grade) approach?
    Opinions please.
    Thanks,
    Stacie
