    Blue Fairy Book question

    Good morning,

In my VB class, a student asked about the similarities between “Cinderella” and “Felicia and the Pot of Pinks.” She was wondering if the stories were based on the same storyline. We noted both stories featured a girl who was overworked, mistreated by her siblings, interacted with a fairy, then became a princess. After becoming a princess, the character then forgave her siblings and bestowed lavish gifts upon them. Are these stories similar because it was a common storyline of the day? Both authors are French and wrote around the same time. I’ve done some internet research and can’t find a definitive answer. (I have learned many other interesting tidbits though. ) Anyone have more information about the similarities?

    Hello.

I believe the origin of Cinderella is the Brothers Grimm and it has been adapted into many different stories in many different languages. But my understanding is that it was originally a German fairy tale, as were so many of the fairy tales we have today. And what Grimm didn't originate, Hans Christian Andersen did!

Thank you! I am sure it will come up again as the “Toads and Diamonds” features another mistreated girl who becomes a princess.
