Plans for more dictionaries?

I’d pay double what MP is currently charging for the lit dictionaries if we could get them for grades 3-5 formally printed. My second grader LOVES the dictionary work. LOVES capital L.

Just saying that there is something about those beautiful little books.

I’m glad there are some user-created ones on the forum, but man, I’d really pay for that same book to be created for the other elementary grades.

My 2nd grade daughter loves her little dictionary, too! It is the one book I am not allowed to put away. I would also love one for the subsequent grades.

Thank you! There’s just something about how that little book is published that elevates the activity. If a higher price point allows MP to put focus on it I don’t mind it!

Here to add another plea. Haha! My daughter's favorite book in 2nd grade was that little literature dictionary! She would love to have one for 3rd-5th.

While we are waiting for this to be finished, is there an online dictionary-maker or, alternately, does anyone have any tips or tricks to make your own? After the year we had doing 5th grade, I’m definitely making my own for 6th. It would save us so much time! The current plan is to gather all the lit guides, FMMA, etc., and create my own from the vocabulary words we need to learn for next year and just put them in alphabetical order so the kids can find them independently. But how do you type in all the definitions and get those to alphabetize along with the word entries without making a huge mess? Would this be best done in an excel spreadsheet? (I am a Luddite, LOL!) Any tips appreciated.

When I put dictionaries together, I made them in Excel. I just typed all the words in the "A" column and the definitions in the "B" column. I then sorted everything alphabetically according to the "A" column. After that I put a title and headings and any formatting I wanted.

We just transition to a Webster's Student Dictionary for 3rd grade. Honestly, I scored a really old one from the 50s at a used book store and feel rather lucky because it contains far more words than modern student dictionaries, and also includes words that we see in classic children's lit that aren't used anymore in conversation or books written in the last 10-20 years, so we haven't yet hit any words we couldn't find in it.
