  • The Courage of Sarah Noble - Second Grade Literature Guide - Honors Activities

Those that do the Honors Activities -

Do you you skip the other literature activities on those days for which Honors Activities are assigned?

    Hello.

We only do the honors activities at HLS as we can fit them in, so we don't do many. The teachers choose any they want to do, but no one does them all! They are truly enrichment and should be completed only after all the actual study guide work is done (vocabulary/comprehension questions/discussion questions).

I would *never* disagree with tanya about the curriculum. So I won't. Well, okay, so we do disagree about the importance and primacy of the Tolkien novels. And yes, we also disagree about the novels being better than the movies, though the movies are very excellent in their own respects. She's wrong on both points. But that is a very nice new profile picture, by the way.

All that said, honors and extra activities are great, but only to be done when the regular daily tasks are fully complete and if you have time and energy (and desire). So far, we have tended to complete them all as they come up but my oldest is only in 2nd Grade and midway through the Sarah Noble book and wants to do all the extras (real go-getter). That may change as our time commitments and material levels change.

We just finished this book! We were a little ahead of the schedule, so this week and next we are planning to do any of the work we didn't do previously (including honors and extra activities). We'll do as many as we can before Christmas and then we will start Little House after. I didn't do any of the extra activities with my other kids though!

Oh, Beorn. "She's wrong on both points." Ouch. Glad you noticed my updated pic though.

FYI, I'm reading The Magician's Nephew for the first time ever and enjoying it, so maybe there's hope for me.

Near me they have these escape rooms where people pay real money to work together and solve clues to find the key to get out. To be a fly on the wall with you and Beorn in an escape room...

Ha! Work together...to solve clues...to escape rooms...@tanya would probably pay big money just to get out of an escape room after being cooped up with me for too long. And yes, there is hope for you yet! Keep going with The Magician's Nephew. From Lewis, it is just a hop and skip to Tolkien.

We have them here in Louisville as well. My teenage daughter loves going with her friends. It sounds like torture to me. 😄

Beorn would love me locked into an escape room, and I am not good with puzzles, so he could keep me in there until I read some Tolkien. So no thanks!
