Enigma,
I do believe the Ludere Puzzles & Games book is included in the individual lesson plans. I can't get on the VPN to check today, but if I find out differently, I'll let you know.

Hello.
I agree with all the advice you have gotten, Enigma (not that you needed my approval, but I didn't want to ignore you since you are the original poster here. Ha!).
Kgreen,
You are exactly right. Sometimes you will learn things in Latin first, and sometimes they will appear in EGR first. The goal is that you connect them as they come together, but they won't all come together at the same time or in the same way. If you feel your student would benefit from slowing EGR down, that is a fine plan. Just make sure you review the EGR I & II rules as these concepts come up in Latin. Then, you will have built a really solid foundation for your move to EGR III and SFL.

Reading this thread makes me curious about how these 2 programs line up. We started MP in 5th last year, and did LC 1 year pace along with EGR 2. I noticed that towards the end, we were memorizing some things that we didn’t really understand. At Tanya’s advice I ordered a R&S grammar teacher edition to use as a reference, which looks like it would explain it, but I didn’t get around to that during the summer like I’d planned. This year they are in first form with mpoa and I am now starting to see that they will be learning more about those end of the year things we memorized in EGR last year. I’m wondering should I hold off on continuing on in EGR 3 this year, and pick it back up later on when we get into second form? EGR is the subject they complain about the most. I have so little time, I’d love to shift some of it from EGR to literature/FMMA. What do y’all think?

Thank you, ladies.
Dorinda- CS in this context = Core Skills Lang. Arts. Sorry about the confusion. I agree it would be too much.
Debbie- yep, that was what I was asking.
Christine- same reasons for using a full English program as yours. We are using Hake, though. I burned mine on R&S years ago.
Sounds like we will be fine then. I am so hesitant to skip anything because I don't want us to miss anymore than we already have by my leap frogging around. It has taken me 10 years to finally understand what MP is trying to accomplish. At least M will benefit from my enlightenment from the start of his education.

You asked if they will miss something in Latin if they don’t do EGR. NO! Latin stands alone. You won’t learn more Latin by doing EGR. It is perfectly ok to do Latin with a different grammar program (just be aware that it is more time consuming). EGR is a simply way to learn English Grammar because it takes what they learn in Latin and transfers it to English. EGR really needs the Latin or it isn’t enough, but Latin is just as much a great Latin program with or without EGR.

Enigma - Just for clarification, you are asking what Grammar program to use in place of doing EGR/Core Skills? You still plan to do Latin?
We had to go this route. As I have understood it, MP used to include Rod and Staff English before they realized it was a bit overkill (and thus EGR was "born"). We are using R&S, because I felt like my son, in particular, needed more direct instruction. We are, however, using it mostly orally. There is a little worksheet booklet that you can buy and he does do those as "independent work".

One more: do the individual lesson plans for LC schedule the review and games books?

Latin and English Lang Arts
Hi, guys! I want to use a full English grammar program alongside our Latin because we all feel they need it. Will they miss something in Latin by not using EGR/CS alongside? Doing both really isn't an option. Y'all know how it goes-- only so many hours in a day.Last edited by Enigma; 09-30-2021, 10:10 PM.Tags: None
