When we go over the Pronounce & Say words and Vocabulary words our teachers always remind the students to be watching for these in reading and to raise a hand or give s thumbs up sign when they hear one of the words. Though, as Jen indicated, it is not imperative they recogize all the words when reading nor do they need to mark them all in their books. As long as the student is able to decode the words correctly and has understanding of the vocab so they get the meaning of the text, they are good.

They don't need to watch for those like the comprehension questions. The Pronounce/Say and Vocabulary are part of preparing to read. They lay the groundwork for fluency and understanding. Looking for the comprehension answers while reading keeps the reading active. Answering the comprehension questions are the reflection on what was read.
