    Making the most of read-alouds

Paying for the Read-alouds for second grade was expensive, so I want to get the most out of them. I like that we read the book of the week five to six times, but that leaves up to three or four science books that are scheduled just once. I can, of course, try to read them twice through out the week, but I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas. I was contemplating having my child read them to herself a few weeks later, perhaps on some type of rotation. I am not trying to make this complicated, but I think that it is important to reread and to review. Any thoughts on this topic?

We aimed for 4x per week for the read alouds and twice for the science or supplemental readers. Don't belabor it. If she wants to read them independently, great. If it becomes a fight, it's better to stop when the day is considered pleasant. The supplemental titles are books that both kids love to read (and be read to) as we get curious about the world around us. They've been a great investment.

I suggest making them available for student reading and reference.
