    Novare Earth Science Lesson Plans

Are there lessons plans for Novare Earth Science? If not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to plan this course? I can work at it over the summer, but I thought I would check here before I go recreating the wheel.

    Melisa,

I don't have lesson plans for earth science, and I don't have a syllabus for it either since we don't teach it at HLS. I would like to have lesson plans eventually, but there are lots of plans I need to make first that are part of our curriculum, so I don't know that I will get to it this summer. If you want to check with me in August though, maybe I'll be really productive?

      Tanya,

Thanks for the offer. I am sure you have many pressing projects to finish. I just thought I would check before I started mapping out my plan. I would hate to do all that work and then find out the lesson plans are available.

You might put out a request to HLS - Nashville pickandgrin, because I think they teach Earth Science.
Also Hahcook has taught it in a small co-op setting.

          Cindy,

          Thank you for the suggestions.

Jessica, would you have anything that I could use as a jumping off spot for lessons plans?

There's a lesson plan provided on the Novare Resource CD. It's not provided in the familiar (and in my opinion, more user-friendly) MP format, however, it does spell out in detail what to complete each week and each lesson. If you purchased the Resource CD, there's a folder titled "Lesson List and Schedule". Within "Lesson List and Schedule" you'll find a Word document titled "ES Lesson List.doc".

Thank you so much for sharing. I just ordered the digital version from Classical Academic Press. So I will take a look at it.

I did use the schedule on the Novare resource cd as a jumping off point and reference. It certainly isn’t as obvious as the MP lesson plans but I broke it into the number of weeks we were meeting and then adjusted for what we were/weren’t going to cover. It wasn’t too oppressive to do but unfortunately, I didn’t write it out like MP does either. If you’d like my weekly format, I can send it with the note that I would adjust it if going through it again.

I did love the course and had hoped to do it agin this coming year but am tentatively leaning a bit more to Phys. Sci.

                  Hollie,

I would very much appreciate a copy of your notes. Thank you for offering. What would be the easiest way for you to share them?

I am planning to order the kit from Home Science Tools, but I haven’t placed my order yet. I just purchased the digital file from CAP. I hope to take a look at the plans listed there in the next few days. If Hollie doesn’t mind, I would be happy to send to you the plans she is sharing with me once I receive them.

                          Melisa,
What age/grade student and what is their concurrent math? We just space out the entire book over the year, but we go light on the topography math because we generally teach this to 7th graders (half doing Pre-Alg, half R&S 6 math). My son did all the topo math alongside alg 1 in 8th with no trouble. There's no pressure to cover "everything" because it's middle school and not cumulative. Better to go slow and enjoy this study. It's full of wonder and awe!

                            Jessica,

My son will be in 8th grade doing pre-algebra.
Thank you for the advise. It does look like a rich course. I am looking forward to teaching it for the first time.

Several chapters made me cry the first time I read them. It's good.
