"we have no words of our own"

DD was doing LC, lesson 7, and needed to translate "Legatus occupat" into English. She knew it, but spelling it was a different matter. I said, "Yes, lieutenant is a tricky word. It's French, actually." She looked at me and grumbled, "English has no words of its own. We stole everything from everybody else!" I know that's not true, and she knows that, but it still cracked me up. I thought all my fellow Latin teachers on here could appreciate it! ? On a side note, she is loving the translation work, and I'm excited for her! Latin is my favorite subject to teach, so I'm excited for me, too!
