    American Studies at HLS?

I'm curious how American Studies works in the grammar school years at HLS. Do the students independently read the book selections as they are scheduled in the curriculum manual? I have read that these books are considered supplemental, but I'm just thinking through how this should ideally look...recognizing that what works in the classroom may not translate into the home and that we already have a full day.

    Hello.

The American studies readers are available in our classrooms for students to check out and read, but they aren't required. We don't have time to read them together in class. The daily scheduling of them was really done for our homeschoolers after requests for a schedule. Then we decided to write the discussion questions so you could monitor your students' having reading without reading the books yourself. I got our teachers to help me choose books that should be on grade reading level so that this could be an independent project for students.
