No problem, Melisa! You're welcome to still give us a call; we might be able to merge the accounts, and we can at least update emails and passwords for you.

It appears that there are either two ladies who spell their names with only one 's' and have the same last name or, perhaps, Melisa has 2 accounts? At any rate, I sent my PM to "Melisa [no space] Burke". I may have just PM'd the wrong person.
How odd! I've manually disabled and then re-enabled private messaging for Melisa Burke, which is a separate account from MelisaBurke, though Melisa-With-a-Space mentioned that she had an old account here ...

    Good afternoon Melisa,

Welcome back to the forum! I've checked your settings, and you should be able to receive private messages, as well as to send them to anyone else who's enabled them. When you click on the person's picture, the "private message" button will be on the next screen to the right of the photo (or, to quote Tahara, "lack thereof"). Here's a screenshot to help:

If you still have trouble messaging, or you need any other assistance with the forum, you are welcome to call our office (1-877-862-1097) and ask for me. I'd be happy to help!

    Dorinda,

I checked my profile and it says that I have enabled the private message option. I'm not sure what else to do. I will try to contact someone at the Forum later today and see what I am doing wrong.

    Melisa,
I tried to send you a message, but you haven’t elected to receive them. I have to leave for the airport soon to pick up my sister so I will have to look later for where to turn that on. They changed the system not too long ago.

Hi Melissa! Absolutely welcome back, and what a fun shout out this morning! I think it sounds like you guys have been doing great - picking the tools that are right for your family every year and every “season.” I would not worry about your “big picture” at all! Everyone’s is going to look different from each other. I think the only way we would have all been able to check the same boxes were if we were lucky enough to all live in Louisville and have our kids go to the exact same school!

But homeschooling....Geesh. There’s so much that goes into life that affects our choices. I don’t think a week goes by that I don’t have to deal with some sort of self-doubt about how things are going, you know? I think it gets harder and harder as you go along - not easier - because these bigger kids seem to need so much more than just being at home with mom. We have not fluctuated in our school choices since finding MP but a big part of that is that we have had so much change and upheaval in our regular lives. It became comforting and helpful for all of us to have school be consistent and predictable. But I do still deal with a lot of questions, doubt, and fear about how things are going, and my biggest source of help is prayer. Honestly. Not that I worry about the quality of their education. It’s everything else that goes along with homeschooling that I did not expect in the early years.

So this forum is so important for me in that too - just knowing that there are a lot of other moms in my same shoes of feeling like a lone wolf whose pack is scattered all throughout the country. I am so grateful you are back, and that both you and Tahara are giving us all the reminder that there’s no entrance test to participating on the forum. You could be using just the read aloud set, and we would welcome what you have to bring to our conversations! Some of the best threads have been about discussing reasons for how we do things, comparing things to understand them better, or even off-topic meanderings. It may seem through cyberspace that I do not waver or falter, but that’s because thankfully my personal experiences are usually locked up in my own head or hashed out in talks with my dh. But never, ever think that there is smooth, calm waters occurring over in this neck of the woods either! Life is full of challenges for everybody - me and Jessica included!

    hugs and prayers to all!
    AMDG,
    Sarah

To send a pm, click the person's picture (or lack thereof :-) and then click "Private Message"...

Melisa!!! So good to hear from you again. I have missed you and I am so happy you are back! Maybe I can talk you back to Sodalitas one summer and we can drive together :-)

I have been to your neck of the woods a few times and have wondered how you were doing. M is in 11th with a mix of MP and some other classes. T is somewhere between 8th and 9th. We have been enjoying doing MP without the curriculum manual as it is more relaxing to do it at our own pace.

Yay!...Good to hear from you again...

I am sure there are others out there who have struggled to find what works and who have drifted between different curricula and methods...I too admire people like Sarah and Jessica; they knew what they wanted and needed and stayed the course...Our kids are probably close in age based on the grades you gave for each one, and I understand coming back to MP with older kids...

As far as nature study, my husband is much more of an outdoors person than I am, and he takes the boys out at least once a week to be in nature...They still take photos, draw, and paint what they find in nature...They are old enough to go out on their own too, and they do...But using MP is really helping us to organize our homeschool and get much more out of it...

I am still glad to be back...

Tamara you have inspired me to submit a writing to this forum again. I have been gone for several years, also using CM. It has been a wonderful experience for my kids, but over the years I have always drifted back to MP. I would check the curriculum for literature suggestions. I figured if MP had chosen to study it, I should give it due consideration. I have lurked around the forum from time to time secretly missing all of the wonderful support that I received from the women on this forum. My kids are now 7th and 9th grade. CM still works pretty well for my 7th grade son, but my daughter is needing something more. She has done a few classes on Homeschool Connections, which she has loved. But I have recently found myself purchasing more and more MP items to add to our curriculum. This school year seems to be a pretty equal mix of MP and living books with a couple of Homeschool Connections classes sprinkled in. I'm not sure yet where we are going. I still love nature study and all of the other little extras that we work in through the CM method. But at the same time, in the high school years we are struggling to find time for all of the "extras." I am starting to envision a world with a good amount of MP, wonderful read alouds at night (this has never stopped for us), good long walks in the woods when we can fit it in, and Homeschool Connections for anything we are missing....maybe that is the new balance. This seems to be a constantly shifting journey. I admire people like Sarah and Jessica who have stayed the course. Anyway, you may see me around the forum again. I couldn't remember my password so I set up a new account and it logged me in as a junior member. I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I met many of you several years ago at the MP conference in Louisville. Sarah, you may remember me as being friends with Amy Pavey.
