  • OT: Confidence builder

There is nothing like building up your confidence by volunteering to “sub” a 1st grade religious ed class. These are “public” schooled kids. There was absolutely nothing “wrong” with them, but watching 14 1st graders, color, cut and glue a “Jesus forgives” puzzle (4 pieces) together over a painful 35 minutes was eye opening in my expectations in my homeschool. We are doing fine! My guess, we are all doing fine!

Amen! I think a lot of time we have unrealistic expectations.

I realized I was expecting 100% correct on everything. It's taken us two weeks to master a spelling list. First test was 75, today she re-took it and missed only two. Score! We're moving on folks.

I lead an enrichment class for homeschoolers. We did Valentine's two weeks ago. A kindergartner was unsure how to spell her name, Emma.

So, when things are hard or you question whether your kid is totally bombing, just remember your kid will know how to sign their name...in cursive.

Your kid will also know they are made in His image and He loves them....right where they are...slow paced, moderated, advanced, whatever.

We had a big day over here...oldest mastered all 50 states and capitals in recitation, the middle finished her grade 2 MP literature and moved on to a book by Pathway Publishers, and the youngest finished FSR book C workbook and discovered she could read the first Pathways book.
DS14- Simply Classical mash-up of Traditional Spelling 2 and SC 7/8
DD12- Classic Core 6th Grade w/ First Form
DD10- Classic Core 4th Grade w/ Greek Myths and American History

    We've completed:
Classic Core Jr. kindergarten thru grade 5
    Simply Classical levels B, C, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5/6

Congratulations on those big accomplishments...especially memorizing the 50 states and capitals! I agree we often imagine that everyone else does stuff better than we do. In reality, we all have our strengths and weaknesses.
