    Excellent Add-on for States/Capitals

    https://www.amazon.com/United-States...+coloring+book

We are using this States coloring book as an add-on to our States/Capitals lessons this year. I like that each page has all the important information already on it (that the students write into their student books). But what I like most, is that important information about the state is on each page..... such as lobsters and lighthouses for the state of Maine (not mentioned in the other book.)

    Just sharing,

    SusanP in VA

What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing, Susan! This is going to be right up my kids’ alley!

(Is it terrible that I am thinking it will make a great Christmas present idea??? Can’t believe we are heading into that already!)

We love the Dover coloring books! They make great supplements.

They also serve to feed random subjects the kids are interested in, but that don't (for now) merit school time. My kids were super interested in Hebrew at one point, but they were quite young, and I didn't have the time or resources to really pursue Hebrew. Voila - Dover Hebrew alphabet coloring book! It was completely non-academic - I found a youtube Hebrew alphabet song too, and done.

I think this is an underappreciated technique for "neglected" subjects in the multum non multa approach.

Thanks for this! F is digging her heels in about States. Perhaps this will help as she is my little artist.

Does anyone remember the Animaniacs? They did an entire song with all of the states and capitals pointed out on a map. I memorized a lot of them from this silly song alone.

Yes! This video is the only reason one of my kiddos finally memorized his states and capitals! Spelling we're still working on, but he knows the states and capitals!

Oh, that was awesome. Thanks for the morning flashback. There's all the countries of the world that comes next, too. My rising 3rd grader is pumped to learn that video.
