Literary Terms and Literature Guides

I'm curious if/when literary terms are introduced and practiced in the literature guides. I've looked through the samples in 6-8th grades, and it's not obvious that literary terms and elements are discussed.

I see that the story content is discussed well (including character, setting, plot), but I don't see references to literary elements such as symbolism, metaphor, or irony.

Is that type of study included in the literature guides at any point?

I'm asking because I need a LOT of hand-holding and direction in this area!

Literary terms are taught in the upper school guides that have the Pre-Grammar, Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric stage breakdowns. That should be most of the guides for grades 9-12.
