    You are correct on #5. That is an error in the Answer Key. #5 should be the pluperfect praefecerat.

    But #9 is correct; "often burned" may be translated by the imperfect, saepe incendebat. The imperfect is used for a continual or repeated action. It isn't necessarily translated in English with an "-ing" verb. Have a look at Henle Grammar 486.

    BTW, #3 should be the pluperfect, deduxerat.

    Hi there!
    I am very confused by #5 and #9 of Exercise 81 Second Year Henle.
    Why isn't it praefecerat in stead of praefecit and incendit instead of incendebat?
