  • Third form Unit 2 Review Translation B

    Good morning.

In Question 3: The huge ship will be full of grain and wine

They answer is : Navis ingens erit frumenti et vini plena

Frumenti and vini are both genitive singulars of neuter words. I'm having trouble understanding why plena appears to be in the neuter plural.

    thanks!

    Good morning,

Plena is actually feminine singular and agrees in gender, number, and case with navis. Frumenti and vini are genitive singular because they are objects of the adjective plenus -a -um. Does that help?

Michael...I was just coming to edit because I actually figured it out!!! It looks then like we are treating the word full like a predicate adjective: The ship is full. then what it is full.if would be written in the genitive. I was so.excited when the lightbulb went off! Thanks so, so much for your quick response!
