Can the 8th grade core be used for a 9th grader?

I know that the science would need to be switched out but could the rest be used by a 9th grade student and have credits awarded or should I just do my own thing for him? Thanks

Yes! In my opinion, the 8th grade core has plenty of meat to count for high school credit.
In my homeschool I would award credit as follows:

    Latin - 1 cr
Classical/Christian Studies (ie "History or Social Studies") - 1 cr
    Math Algebra - 1 cr
English (grammar, literature, composition) - 1 cr
Geography - 0.5 to 1.0 credit depending on how you do it
Science of your choice - 1 cr

I might add 0.5 for PE or some other elective, but that looks like a very solid 9th grade year to me!
