    Questions Chapter 12 Exercises

    Chapter 12 Exercises
    Question#25
    All cars are fast
    My car is a Corvette
    Therefore, my car is fast

I work backward on these, finding the S and P in the conclusion first. I have
Therefore, my car (sd) is fast (pu)
Then I fill in the rest -
All cars (m1) are fast (pu)
My car (sd) is a Corvette (m2)
Therefore, my car (sd) is fast (pu)

I have violation of rule #1 (due to four terms), However, the key states violation of rule #2, calling "my car" a middle term.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thanks,

    Andrea

    Andrea,

The fallacy in this one is a violation of the middle term occurring in the conclusion, not one of having four terms.
