    NLE Mix-up

My son took the NLE Intro Exam two years ago when he was in Second Form. Last year, for some unknown reason (I blame mom-brain), I put him in the Intro Exam again, while he was in Third Form. He got a perfect paper, but I don't know if we can really "count" it since it was his second time taking the Intro. He plans to major in Classics or English Literature so I'm not sure whether I can include this on his admissions info or not?

Also, what on earth do I register him for this year? He's in Fourth Form but has only taken Intro. Do I sign him up for Latin I or Latin II??

    Jen,

I would include the perfect paper on the Intro exam, regardless of the fact that it took him two times to get there. We have our students retake exams when they do poorly the first time, hoping they will improve the second time around. I would totally put him in the Level I exam this year and see if he can get a gold medal. Technically, he could be in the Level II exam, but it's not necessary. A slower pace will hopefully get him more gold medals.

He actually did fantastic the first time (not a perfect paper, but a certificate and purple ribbon). Do you think we can still count the second one?

I would count the best score. Yes!

My daughter took Latin 1 in fourth form and it makes things work out pretty well moving forward with NLE. Intro is a good fit for third form. I would mention it on his application for honors and activities, but I don’t plan to include it on actual transcripts. That is just my preference, not any actual rule. Wherever you want to place it, I wouldn’t have a second thought using the second score. Tell him great job! My daughter missed it by one question on intro...she apparently missed the concept of which way was east on a map.
